Nap of the day

After a fortnight away, I'm back in the Nap of the Day hotseat and recharged, ready for the build up to a certain four-day Festival. You might have heard of it...

But more immediately, on Tuesday, I'm engaged in the opener at Catterick with one for the champion jockey.

Sean Bowen is riding out of his skin... again.

The champion jockey boasts a 31% strike rate in the past fortnight, courtesy of 17 winners from 55 rides.

His tally for the season is 205 and the 28-year-old's hopes of bettering the great AP McCoy's record of 289 look stronger by the day.

Bowen rides four at Catterick on Tuesday, including ITSINTHENAME for Nick Scholfield. Anyone else read that in the voice of the EA Sports guy?

The five-year-old Order Of St George gelding is a new recruit for the former Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey, who's made a bright start to his career as a trainer with 67 runners yielding 12 wins (18% strike rate).

Formerly trained by Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies in the Cotswolds, the £70k purchase joined Grange Hill Farm after placing in an Irish point-to-point in October.

On rules debut at Lingfield last month, in a two-miler bumper, he was just touched off by one of Olly Murphy's in a rousing finish.

It was an encouraging effort against runners for Murphy, Paul Nicholls and Ben Pauling. The fact he was sent off 5/4f in such company suggests he shows a fair bit at home.

The selection ought to improve plenty for the run and experience, and Bowen being on his back is no negative.

If he takes to jumping, he's very much the one to beat for me, despite rivals Crack Ops and Roarin' Success receiving plenty of weight.

Those two are obvious dangers - less so the latter - as is Myrighthandman for Tom Lacey. That one's open to progression on his second start following a wind op after bumping into some smart types the last twice.

But Itsinthename is the one who looks to have the most going for him, as the market suggests.
