Nap of the Day: Skeltons set for more Saturday success

Nap of the day with owen mcmahon

I expected more from Tryst at Wolverhampton on Friday, but in fairness she was done by a highly-progressive rival under a top jockey - and that stumble on the bend didn't help.

I'm switching code on Saturday for the Nap of the Day - a Dan Skelton-trained mare at Ayr on Scottish Grand National day.

Dan Skelton, who made history to become the first National Hunt trainer in history to reach £4million in prize money in a season, is already within £200k of hitting the £5million mark.

He sends a strong team to Ayr on Scottish Grand National day, including TWISTTHENIGHTAWAY. She can add a valuable £23k to the tally.

The six-year-old daughter of Walk In The Park, who's part-owned by John Magnier of Ballydoyle, didn't show a lot in the first four runs of her career - one in a bumper and three over hurdles - but she's come to her own since going handicapping.

Off an opening mark of 102, she made no mistake at the first time of asking at Newcastle in January, relishing the step up to 2m4½f on heavy ground. Similar conditions are expected in Scotland this weekend.

Then at Bangor a month later, she was upped further in trip to 2m7f, off four pounds higher, and won cosily under a Harry Skelton special. Not too far, Harry...

I think there's lots more to come from this mare, so a six-pound rise mightn't be enough to stop her. She's up in class against stiffer competition, so that'll need to be the case.

The obvious danger is World Of Fortunes for James William Kenny. Rated 137, the eight-year-old brings smart form to the table, including a Listed success at Kelso last month.

She's got lots of weight to carry, though, and regular pilot Jordan Gainford isn't on board. Instead, it's a seven-pound claimer with precious little experience.

The likes of Love Of Neymore, Fox's Fancy, Game Colours and Holly Hartingo are good yardsticks, but not exactly open to improvement - while outsiders Pinot Rouge and Starlyte have it all to do.

I'd be wary of six-year-olds Azahara Palace and Princess Keri - especially the latter under Harry Cobden. That's an eye-catching jockey booking.

But if Twistthenightaway continues to improve, which she surely will, she'll hopefully take a good bit of beating.
