It's one of those standout weeks in the racing calendar. Festivals at Goodwood and Galway dominate until and including the weekend, with the top battalions chasing trophies and glory on both sides of the Irish Sea.

Goodwood's opening day on Tuesday features EIGHT races, the first FIVE of which are LIVE on ITV. Three Group contests, two-year-old action, handicaps - it's got the lot, and as an opening day of five it's an absolute cracker. We're obviously going nowhere else for our Lucky 15 tips. Enjoy!

14:25 Goodwood - Al Hudaiba @ 7/4

First up for us is a G2 over 7f, for two-year-olds.

The two disputing affairs at the head of the market both ran at HQ 17 days ago. My selection Al Hudaiba, a Dark Angel colt out of a Dubawi mare, took a race at this G2 level by a short-head (trained by Charlie Appleby).

Haffner, a colt by Justify out of a Zoffany mare, prevailed a little more cosily in a warm maiden for Aidan O'Brien (the third has since come out and won a maiden at Chester).

Godolphin's Al Hudaiba concedes 3lb to his rival today but really ought to be up to the task. Haffner made all at Newmarket and Al Hudaiba was held up and ridden for a late bid.

Not hard to see a similar scenario taking place today, and the progressive potential stalker has twice as much racecourse experience (four runs) as his rival.

Haffner of course has any amount of improving to do in theory, but this is a quirky track, and it's a tough G2 assignment just third time up.

An intriguing sub-plot is that arguably Aidan's fabled barn isn't quite firing on all cylinders right now whereas the Appleby yard is making hay just in time perhaps for this, and the big gatherings to come at the likes of York and Doncaster.

Will Buick, who else, has the riding assignment.

15:35 Goodwood - Trawlerman @ 2/1

Potential to be the race of the day. Week. Season! Two likely main protagonists once again in this 2m G1 Goodwood Cup, and if they serve up anything approaching what transpired in the Ascot Gold Cup 40 days ago we're in for a treat of considerable proportions.

Godolphin's Trawlerman is housed with the Gosdens at Clarehaven, and was run down in the shadow of the post and beaten a head in the big one at the royal meeting by Aidan's Scandinavia, a winner last season of the Betfred St Leger at Donny. Shorter trip today could suit us - fingers crossed.

Trawlerman looked to make all in Berkshire, as per, and heartbreakingly failed by almost the smallest of margins. Scandinavia took this narrowly from stablemate Illinois last term, and he opposes once again - but is surely not in the kind of form required to take this.

Will Buick knows Trawlerman well, and if he can get the fractions spot on again he'll make Scandinavia work very hard to get by. Our pick is by the mighty Golden Horn, out of a Monsun mare, Tidespring, who herself stayed 2m when campaigned in Sheikh Mohammed's colours in Europe around 14 years ago.

Again I make mention that this is a very quirky track, and easy to get unbalanced. If anything were to go slightly awry for the pursuer, Trawlerman could well hold his advantage this time and resume winning ways.

He's scored here before - fingers crossed that he can do so again on Tuesday.

16:45 Goodwood - Agrippa @ 6/1

Trainer Richard Hannon, and Dad Richard senior before him, have been extremely adept at snaffling big prizes at this Glorious jamboree.

It might be a few years since their star miler Canford Cliffs was doing his thing, but it's worth remembering that several good judges gave him a fine chance of upsetting the mighty Frankel no less here in the Sussex in 2011 (he started @ 7/4, with Frankel what looks now to be a mouth-watering 8/13!)

No need to ask how it went ...

So - the Hannon pedigree then is beyond argument, even if Canford couldn't quite manage to disturb Henry Cecil's generational colt (no-one ever did to be fair); and the yard saddles a two-year-old Naval Crown colt out of a Raven's Pass mare here - Agrippa.

On the it's a small world front I was here on course when Raven's Pass just failed to overhaul Henrythenavigator in the Sussex of 2008 - an unfortunate defeat he would avenge twice in his next three runs.

Agrippa is beautifully bred then for the task in hand and has two highly respectable, progressive runs under his belt, including a neck second last time at Newbury over this 6f 10 days ago.

Pat Dobbs is in the saddle - the only jockey to have ridden him in public so far. I'm expecting a huge run and he can take this maiden sprint.

17:20 Goodwood - Annastarzy @ 10/3

I'm hoping it's s red-letter day for Wiltshire, as in this 1m Class 3 fillies' handicap for three-year-olds and upwards I'm siding with another Hannon entry in the shape of Annastarzy.

She's a daughter of the great Sea The Stars out of a Dubawi mare - another sumptuously bred type - and she's recorded three wins so far from eight starts.

She's on a four-timer this afternoon, starting her winning run off a mark of 75 and finding herself lining up off 88 today. She's rapidly-improving, and her last win 26 days ago at Newbury was a career-high. Achieved with a little left up her sleeve, too.

She's 6lb higher today but with such an upwardly-mobile profile connections will be more than hopeful. She won here two starts ago and today's pilot Joe Leavy has been in the plate for all three successes so far.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £319 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
