NAP of the Day: Lennox star shooting for Goodwood glory

A wonderful week of racing begins in earnest on Tuesday, with the great Goodwood and Galway summer parties taking centre stage.

For the NAP I'm heading to the Downs, and a runner in the G2 Lennox Stakes which has produced some very nice winners over the years. How about Space Blues, Kinross, Iffraaj, Nayyir, Sir Dancealot and others? Here goes then - cracking race.

The trip is 7f, G2, for three-year-olds and above.

My selection is a five-year-old No Nay Never gelding out of an El Prado mare, with four wins to date from 17 career starts. Lake Forest is trained by William Haggas at Somerville Lodge, Newmarket, and since returning to action in 2026 Lake Forest has reached new heights, particularly at this 7f trip two runs ago at Haydock on seasonal reappearance.

He had smart Group-company form towards the latter part of last season, placing in this race when officially rated 113, then going down unluckily in York's G1 City of York at the Ebor meeting.

At Haydock then in May he sluiced up in Listed company by a yawning 5.5l, and at Ascot last time dropping back to 6f was beaten just 1.5l in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

That 6f trip looked inadequate on the day and back up a furlong this afternoon he can mow 'em down late in the piece under jockey Cieren Fallon, on board for both of his recent 2026 spins.

He comes into this G2 officially rated a 6lb better horse than this time last year, and that's significant. Qirat will probably take them along and is a wonderfully game and genuine horse who sensationally took last year's 1m Sussex Stakes at this meeting after excelling so much with his pacemaker duties that he just stayed in front - at odds of 150/1!

He won York's Criterion this term when last seen in late June, for which I happily tipped him up, at this 7f distance and will certainly be a tough nut to crack. The older horses in this (that's all of them bar one three-year-old) all carry 9st 6lb, and Lake Forest is officially rated 119 - some 6lb superior to Qirat.

He's well in with all his rivals and granted luck in running (that's always a factor here) must have an outstanding chance. He's drawn mid-div in the four box, and Cieren will be looking for some cover and then to fashion a decisive, late, winning burst.
