Lucky 15 Tips: We’re off to Hereford for Tuesday’s tickle

There's a big Venetia Williams element to Tuesday's racing at Hereford, as the track marks the brilliant trainer's 30 years of sending out winners. Let's join in the celebrations then by sourcing our Lucky 15 tips from the card; where, surprisingly to me at any rate, the fragrant Venetia has just the one runner entered.
We had three of the ITV winners on Saturday and I lost count of how many seconds, so let's hope we continue in decent order. All roads this week lead to Newcastle's Fighting Fifth Hurdle on Saturday, where The New Lion, Constitution Hill and Anzadam could be among the runners. Wouldn't that be something? You bet ...
Lucky 15 Tips - Tuesday, November 25
Hereford
- 12:15 - Marsiac @ 1/2
- 12:50 - Hey Buddy @ 10/1
- 15:10 - Granny Hawkins @ 9/4
- 15:45 - Ma Wang Des Bois @ 12/1
*Odds correct as of the time of publication
12:15 - Marsiac @ 1/2
This four-year-old gelding will probably be plenty skinny enough but appeals as one who can get us off to a cracking start.
Kim Bailey and Mat Nicholls train, at Cheltenham, and the yard are in terrific order with four winners from ten runners over the past fortnight. Marsiac was second in his point in February, then a respectable fourth on hurdling debut (maiden) in early October at Uttoxeter, before putting it all together later that month at Aintree, taking a maiden hurdle by a length at around this trip.
Obvious chance of continuing this upward curve and scoring for regular jockey Tom Bellamy.
12:50 - Hey Buddy @ 10/1
Fergal O'Brien trains this five-year-old for the Rooneys, and he's been performing steadily and with credit in four runs to date without getting his head in front.
Hey Buddy is one of the most experienced in this field and on Racing Post ratings looks to have a very bright opportunity in this novice. At time of writing he offers to me at least the prospect of some real value for his in-form stable.
15:10 - Granny Hawkins @ 9/4
Our selection is a six-year-old mare trained by the mighty Alan King in Wiltshire, still looking for her first victory after ten appearances under rules.
Granny Hawkins achieved a career-best at Uttoxeter last time and signalled that her turn was perhaps close at hand. It was back in July, a 3l second of 12 off a mark of 88, and she reappears this afternoon running off 90 again at 2m and at the same level.
It has to be said that the yard are not in form, but jockey Tom Bellamy certainly is. She's got a nice racing weight of 11st 3lb and if fit and straight has an obvious, very lively chance.
'Kingy' is a master of course but especially down the years with hurdlers. This could be a perfect opportunity to break her duck.
15:45 - Ma Wang Des Bois @ 12/1
I've gone for a newcomer here, in the care of the excellent Emma Lavelle in Wiltshire.
Ma Wang Des Bois is a four-year-old gelding who changed hands for a reported fee in the region of £40k as a three-year-old, and comes from a winning family.
The jockey booking is of great interest in my view - the quite brilliant former champion Harry Cobden, operating at a 24% strike-rate over the past fortnight.
This bumper looks potentially quite hot, with inmates from some big yards (Twiston-Davies, Skelton, Hobbs/White, Pauling, Pipe among them); and it's fair to say this is a slightly speculative selection.
Harry rode a winner for the yard at Exeter a couple of days ago and often gets the call when his P Nicholls commitments allow, so one has to hope connections are hopeful - as am I!
If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £890 for a £7.50 total stake.
