Lucky 15 Tips - Thursday, October 23
Chelmsford
*Odds correct as of the time of publication
16:45 - Zoiros @ 11/8
This gelded Sioux Nation two-year-old has been consistently hitting the post since making his debut in June - and it's high time he registered.
Zoiros hasn't been out of the first four in five spins to date, and has been second on three of those occasions in novice/maiden company. The Amo Racing-owned, Kevin Philippart De Foy-trained Newmarket-based raider is surely due a change of fortune, and rated 80 as he is this restricted novice looks a golden opportunity.
6f is the trip, and Amo's man David Egan is doing the steering.
17:45 - Thanh Nam @ 10/3
A 10f Class 6 handicap now, and a selection trained by in-form HQ handler James Owen.
He's been banging in the winners under both codes but Thanh Nam is yet to register after five career starts. The two-year-old Without Parole colt ran well here two starts ago in mid-September, beaten just 2l, running on.
Last time at Wolves 12 days ago he was outpaced and met with interference on that tighter circuit, and he's evidently better suited to Essex. Off a pound less than the previous Chelmsford mark he can break his duck; with cracking, experienced pro Pat Cosgrave doing the steering.
19:15 - Sheikh Raj @ 4/1
A three-year-old gelded son of the mighty Pinatubo now, trained by Richard Hughes in Upper Lambourn and ridden by Finley Marsh.
Sheikh Raj is still looking for win number one after seven racecourse appearances, but showed under the champion Oisin Murphy last time at Ayr that he's got plenty of ability.
Beaten just 3l over 7f on that occasion, in a Class 4 handicap worth £12k to the winner, he drops to a Class 5 now and steps up to a mile. That looks sure to suit as in the west of Scotland he was doing all his best work at the finish.
He's gone ok at Kempton before so the all-weather surface shouldn't hold any terrors.
19:45 - Jack Langley @ 11/10
In-form Cieren Fallon (26% strike-rate over the last fortnight) rides this three-year-old Time Test gelding for Epsom trainer Simon Dow.
Jack Langley has two wins from 10 career starts, the last of which was just nine days ago at Lingfield. Off 51 he prevailed cosily over 1m 4f, and gets a step up to 2m tonight looking to defy a 6lb penalty.
He's always shaped like a stayer and connections will be hopeful he'll get this extreme trip. We know he's in fine fettle, and Paddy Bradley, on top at Lingers, is once again is doing the steering.
Smashing chance of win number three.
This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £166 for your total £7.50 stake.
