Lucky 15 Tips: Thursday at Thirsk should be highly entertaining

Thursday already - where do these weeks disappear to? Lovely little gathering at Thirsk will do nicely for our Lucky 15 tips; a six-race meet that kicks in at 13:53. First two in yesterday's L15 whizzed in but the other pair couldn't follow suit.

Silvestre De Sousa, Jason Hart and Cliff Lee are among the jocks in action today, and with the sun hopefully shining where else would you want to spend your afternoon?

13:53 Thirsk - Princess Honey Bee @ 3/1

Maiden fillies go 7f in our opener.

Princess Honey Bee hasn't seen the racecourse for 325 days so this is a bit of a leap of faith, but on official marks the three-year-old daughter of Aclaim has a bright chance and when last seen in August was contesting a £15k maiden at Epsom, when trained by Eve Johnson Houghton.

She joined North Yorkshire handler Craig Lidster only a handful of days ago and it's interesting that they're keen to see exactly what's under the bonnet. Cliff Lee is a very encouraging jockey booking and the horse is part-owned, in tandem with the trainer, by the prolific Nick Bradley, the driving force behind so many syndicated horses (Nick Bradley Racing).

14:28 Thirsk - Sandy Craic @ 11/8

A 1m Class 5 apprentice handicap, for three-year-olds.

Conor Whitely is on board our selection Sandy Craic, and he's enjoyed 22 winners this year, more than any of today's rivals.

The Starman filly, out of a Footstepsinthesand mare, has one win from her 10 starts and is admirably consistent for her outstanding trainer David O'Meara, who does his very successful thing about 30 miles away in Upper Helmsley.

Conor has ridden her on a couple of occasions and the horse is just 2lb higher than when winning at Carlisle two runs ago, in mid-June. Big chance.

16:10 Thirsk - Coconut Bay @ 3/1

Basement Class 6 handicap, 7f, for three-year-olds and upwards.

Slightly bigger field of 10 slated to face the starter, and the one I like is a very experienced seven-year-old mare by Bated Breath out of an Oasis Dream mare.

Coconut Bay is seven-from-76 all told and has been placed on a further 20 occasions. She was beaten a head on this track last August over a mile off a mark of 63, and lines up fully 10 spots lower today, off 53.

Tristan Davidson trains, and the excellent Jason Hart (21% strike-rate in the last 14 days) has the riding assignment.

16:45 Thirsk - Harswell Ruby @ 7/4

Our last leg is a 1m Class 5 handicap, for four-year-olds and upwards.

Three of the field are course-and-distance scorers, which includes our selection Harswell Ruby. The four-year-old Far Above filly has two wins from her 29 starts, and again is an admirably consistent performer.

She has appeared in slightly higher grades than this over the last year or so and her last winning mark, under today's jockey Jo Mason, was 69, here, in April.

That's just a pound lower than today's mark of 70, and when last seen she was in fine form at Ponte just nine days ago finishing a half-length second to an Ed Bethell inmate, and his horses are absolutely flying right now.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £157 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
