Lucky 15

Outstanding racing is coming our way on Saturday - an embarrassment of riches almost. Absolutely brilliant. I've previewed ITV's stellar coverage in a separate piece, and for my Lucky 15 tips today I'm going to Sandown Park, avoiding the two heats we've looked at already in that companion article I mentioned, and homing in on some of the other excellent contests taking place.

Several of our very best jocks are on duty, so without further ado here are Saturday's Lucky 15 tips.

Lucky 15 Tips Saturday

Sandown

  • 13:30 - Mafnood @ 7/1
  • 15:15 - Jarraaf @ 4/1
  • 16:25 - Royal Velvet @ 9/2
  • 17:00 - Cavern Club @ 4/1

Horse Racing Odds

13:30 - Mafnood @ 7/1

A three-year-old Kingman gelding wearing the Shadwell blue, Jim Crowley up, and trained by Richard Hannon - don't know about you but I'm keen already.

Mafnood was favourite for a nice handicap at this grade last time (Newcastle, 34 days ago), and ran very well to be beaten only half a length. He drops a couple of furlongs here but on breeding these kind of trips should be absolutely fine.

He's yet to really catch fire in reality after winning his novice last term at Haydock, but on his third run this campaign his breeding and tip-top connections can start to pay dividends.

15:15 - Jarraaf @ 4/1

That man Crowley again, this time for trainer Owen Burrows.

Jarraaf carries the familiar colours of Sheik Ahmed and as this is only career start number three any amount of improvement can be expected.

29 days ago on seasonal reappearance he was favourite for a warm heat at Newbury, eventually won by a horse doubly entered at the Royal meeting. Ran third that day, beaten 3l, and the best is very definitely yet to come.

16:25 - Royal Velvet @ 9/2

Neil Callan rides this three-year-old filly for excellent Lambourn handler Clive Cox.

Royal Velvet has a couple of all-weather successes to her name, but has run with great credit the last twice at Newmarket and Goodwood. Last time on those picturesque rolling Downs she finished with purpose over 7f, and gets a mile here, plus that legendary stiff finish.

Could be right up her street.

17:00 - Cavern Club @ 4/1

The outstanding Rossa Ryan rides this four-year-old Ribchester gelding for Newmarket trainer James Owen.

This one is in career-high form, winning by a squeak at Chester 21 days ago off a mark of 80. He looks to follow up in the same grade off 3lb higher, and stretching out to 1m 6f.

Cavern Club's sire Ribchester settled down to become a Group 1 champion at around a mile so the stamina must come from the dam's side, being by Derby hero New Approach.

Took every inch to get up last time so I'm hopeful the additional yardage will be a benefit and not the opposite.

If you're playing, take care, have fun and enjoy. It's a brilliant afternoon for the sport - let's hope for a bit of luck.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.25p each-way Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £540 for your total £7.50 stake.

Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.
