Kempton park all-weather

Lots of all-weather action to look forward to on Wednesday as Kempton joins the meetings from Newcastle and Dundalk on the synthetic surfaces.

Kempton have a marathon nine-race offering which is set to run from 15:45-20:00 and we've picked out three horses to follow at the Sunbury-on-Thames venue.

They include a once-raced son of Sea The Stars looking to open his account at the second time of asking for trainer Roger Varian.

Kempton Tips

  • 18:00 Kempton – Matsuri @ EVS
  • 18:30 Kempton – Chifa @ 5/2
  • 20:00 Kempton – Autumn Angel22/1

18:00 Kempton - Matsuri @ EVS

Matsuri is a well-bred son of Sea The Stars and he made a pleasing start to his career when second at Salisbury (1m, soft) in last month's debut outing.

A short-head and a head split the first three home in that contest and Matsuri was the only one of the trio who had to come from further back in the field, just failing to get up and collar La Pasionaria in the dying strides as the Ralph Beckett runner held on gamely.

The winner was subsequently well held in Listed company at Newmarket, though heavy ground may not have been to his liking there.

The Varian string are in good order and this promising colt should improve from that initial showing. He should have no issues on the surface and can open his account in the hands of Jack Mitchell.

18:30 Kempton - Chifa @ 5/2

Ed De Giles saddles Chifa in this seven-furlong handicap as the gelding looks to atone for a near miss over course and distance nine days ago.

Twice successful over 7f at Wolverhampton in May, he was 0-4 on grass during the summer months but once more obliged at the Black Country venue last month.

He didn't have the best passage in the race he contested here most recently, having to navigate around rivals in the home straight as he finished off strongly to go down a head behind the favourite Dark Side Thunder.

Chifa would have got that verdict in another stride and looks to be on a good mark having been left alone on 65 – 2lb well-in. He's also got Liam Wright claiming 7lb off his back now and they are fancied to collect a second win together.

20:00 Kempton - Autumn Angel @ 22/1

The Cola Kid has two Kempton wins (6f/7f) already this month and connections have secured Oisin Murphy for this hat-trick attempt. He's shortlisted alongside the consistent Annie Law, a winner over track and trip 30 days ago in a four-way dive for the line.

This is a Betfred Extra Place Race (four places) however and some each-way support instead for AUTUMN ANGEL is the play.

The Dark Angel filly broke her duck at Southwell over 6f in February and added a turf win at Bath (5½f, good) in July when returning from a short break.

That came off this mark of 62 and her most recent start since is easily overlooked as it came on soft ground back at Bath four weeks ago.

Tony Carroll deploys a pair of first-time blinkers now and if they have a positive effect, the filly should go under Rossa Ryan.
