Sunday Racing Tips: Goyard to return to winning ways at Ponte

There's a little something for everyone on Sunday, with the notable exception of Irish racing fans, as all three of the afternoon's fixtures take place in Britain. Pontefract get us underway and their feature race is the Listed Pontefract Castle Fillies’ Stakes; while they also race over jumps at Hexham and on the Flat at Brighton.
Among our fancies is a thoroughly unexposed David O’Meara runner who is lightly raced in handicap company and is slowly slipping down the weights in eye-catching fashion.

14:35 Pontefract - Goyard @ 11/2
David O'Meara's GOYARD remains lightly raced, especially in handicap company, which means there could be more to come from the four-year-old. He showed plenty when second on debut at Doncaster in June and shaped as if he would benefit from the experience.
That proved to be the case, as he took a huge step forward when bolting up in a Ripon maiden the following month. Scoring by six-and-a-half lengths on that occasion, he showed a good attitude to follow up under a penalty and over a shorter trip next time.
Connections made the decision to switch to handicaps at Newmarket in September and he struggled a little. The handicapper dropped him 1lb for that and he showed signs of improvement last time. Having been dropped another 2lb since, he should be going close.

15:05 Pontefract - Revoir @ 11/4
Recent trends suggest that Ralph Beckett is the trainer to follow in Pontefract's feature Listed contest, having won it four times in the last decade. Having landed the last two renewals, his runner REVOIR looks like the one to side with here.
The form of her close-up third in the Princess Royal Stakes at Newmarket last term is amongst the best on offer and a similar performance here would give the daughter of Study Of Man every chance of a return to winning ways, having not won since her juvenile days.
There was plenty to like about her narrow second in a Haydock Listed contest last time out and she's entitled to improve for the run. Clearly 1m4f is no problem for her and the handicapper thinks she’s the best horse in the race, which is probably true here.

15:43 Hexham - Perseus Way @ 10/11
PERSEUS WAY has been around the block a fair few times and he got his career off to the perfect start when winning on debut at Leicester for Charlie Appleby. He then had a brief stint with Owen Burrows and managed to land a 1m2f handicap at Newbury back in 2022.
Highly tried in his juvenile hurdle days, he bolted up in a Leicester maiden and was third in the Grade 2 Finale Juvenile Hurdle after that. He was trained by Gary Moore at the time and managed to win the Chatteris Fen, before finishing second in the Dovecote at Kempton.
The seven-year-old has been in fine form since joining Tristan Davidson, winning two 2m4f races over hurdles and a 1m5f handicap on the Flat.
Completing his hat-trick over hurdles could be tricky off a 9lb higher mark, but he's worth keeping on side for the time being.
