Horse Racing Tips: Gweedore can thrive down in grade

There are no less than five meetings to get stuck into across Britain and Ireland on Monday, beginning with Ayr’s seven-race card.
Lingfield, Roscommon, Ripon and Wolverhampton provide the supporting action and we have picked out three selections, headlined by a popular Katie Scott-trained veteran. Read on for my horse racing tips.

16:15 Lingfield - Law Of Average @ 11/2
The first division of Lingfield’s Class 4 5f handicap is shaping up to be a very interesting race and there are several candidates to consider. Chelsea Banham’s LAW OF AVERAGE gets the nod, as the five-year-old has been in excellent form so far this year.
He kicked the campaign off with victory at Bath and he made all the running on that occasion, eventually holding on to score by a neck. Winning again at Hamilton next time, positive tactics were employed again and he won comfortably, despite a 4lb higher mark.
Michaela’s Boy, who is in opposition again here, was the victor when he finished third at Yarmouth last time out but there’s a 5lb swing in favour of Banham’s gelding this time around and that could make all the difference.

16:30 Ayr - Gweedore @ 25/1
Katie Scott’s GWEEDORE is yet to win over 6f but that could be set to change at Ayr. The nine-year-old is a five-time course winner and certainly knows his way around. A bit below-par so far this season, the handicapper has responded accordingly.
His last success came at Musselburgh on his final start of the previous campaign and he looks potentially well treated now down to a 2lb lower mark. Just about hanging on to score by a nose on that occasion, winning over a furlong shorter trip should not be beyond him.
The son of Epaulette won off a mark of 97 as recently as 2023 and although age is catching up with him, he should have retained enough ability to score off a 12lb lower mark now. It is also worth noting that the drop in grade is likely to aid his cause.

19:40 Ripon - Rock Of England @ 9/2
There are a couple of last-time out-winners in the field at Ripon and it’s Paul Midgley’s runner ROCK OF ENGLAND who makes the most appeal. Clearly he needed the run when last on his seasonal reappearance, because his three subsequent runs have been excellent.
Rock Of England has won six times during his career thus far and he returned to winning ways with a game performance at Newcastle in April. It’s fair to say that the form of that race worked out, as both the second and third went on to win their next starts.
Third on the turf at Pontefract after that, he ran well under the circumstances as he reportedly bled that day. He left that run well behind him at Ripon last time out and was a comfortable winner. Having won off a 2lb higher mark in the past, he should be competitive.
