Horse Racing Tips: Eagle can land Galway feature

The opening evening of the Galway Festival takes place on Monday - one of five meetings across Britain and Ireland as we enter the final week of July.

My horse racing tips for the day include a recent Killarney winner who goes in the feature race at Ballybrit.

17:10 Galway - Carmel's Phoenix @ 2/1

The opener at Galway is the Galmont Hotel & The Galway Bay Hotel Novice Hurdle over an extended two miles and while the likes of Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott are represented, it can go the way of CARMEL'S PHOENIX for trainer Mark Fahey.

The Phoenix Of Spain filly won on the Flat at Cork in May and made an impressive hurdles debut last month at Kilbeggan (2m3f, good to yielding) when routing rivals from the Mullins and Elliott camps.

She was novicey in her jumping at times and was learning as she went but she clearly has an engine and lots of scope for improvement. She has the potential to be a graded-race performer in this sphere and her rider claims a handy 7lb again.

18:20 Windsor - Boysofwallstreet @ 9/2

Harry Knows sets the standard in the British EBF Novice Stakes over 6f at Windsor and Richard Hughes' Mehmas colt has knocked on the door in four runs. A pair of cheekpieces are added here and he's got claims.

BOYSOFWALLSTREET is one worth noting for George Boughey.

Horse Racing Odds

He was pitched into a valuable Yarmouth novice contest over this trip on debut in May and shaped with some promise after a slow start, beaten four lengths having weakened late on.

A couple of subsequent winners have emerged from that contest and this two-year-old should know more this time. He drops in class and can build on that debut with Jack Callan claiming a handy 3lb in the saddle.

18:40 Galway - Eagle Fang @ 11/1

The big one at Galway on day one is the Connacht Hotel (Q.R.) Handicap over a mile with €66k on offer to the winner and a field of 20 set to line up.

Light Up The Dark is one of five for Joseph O'Brien and perhaps the best of them, while Tounsivator is interesting for Willie and Patrick Mullins.

They are taken on with this month's Killarney (1m6f, good) winner EAGLE FANG for William Durkan.

He came clear with main market rival Sunny South West before winning that maiden in good style and a mark of 90 could be within reach for the six-year-old, who attained a rating of 147 over hurdles and who should have no concerns stepping up in trip.
