Horse Racing Tips: Reporter to have scoop on Chepstow rivals

Monday is the end of summer Bank Holiday in Britain and that means a busy day for racing enthusiasts. There are five UK meetings – from Chepstow, Epsom, Ripon and Southwell (AW) on the Flat alongside the traditional Bank Holiday fare over jumps from Cartmel as they bring down the curtain on their season – alongside further jumps action from Downpatrick and Ballinrobe in Ireland.

Below are my Horse Racing Tips from across Monday's cards on a busy day featuring 48 races in total.

14:40 Ripon – Final Secret @ 1/1

James Tate's filly FINAL SECRET should be able to shed her maiden tag in this mile-and-a-quarter event at Ripon on their Two-Year-Old Trophy card.

The daughter of Time Test has a couple of runs under her belt and has shown enough ability to believe a race of this ilk is within her grasp now. It's a Class 5 Restricted Maiden and, on paper, she is the one to beat.

She ran twice on the all-weather in France last winter and didn't demonstrate much in terms of ability, but it was a different story upped in trip for her turf/yard debut at Nottingham (1m2f, good) in July.

She was back from 224 days off and came with what appeared to be a winning run in the final quarter of a mile, only to be pipped at the post by Saliko in a three-way go for the line with Life Is Rosie. Both the first and third have won since and this filly can emulate them now by winning her next start with Clifford Lee in the plate this time.

15:55 Epsom – Stormy Monday @ 7/1

There are some good races from Epsom on their card and the Robin Grossmith Memorial Handicap over 1m2f looks competitive with eight runners involved.

Last-time-out winner Carnival Day and Soul Dance, second on his last two starts for Andrew Balding, are likely to head the betting but bottom-weight STORMY MONDAY looks a more attractive option for Ed Walker and Kieran Shoemark.

The Too Darn Hot colt is eased to a mark of 71 and has run some good races in defeat in recent months. They include a decent showing over 1m4f here last month when carrying his share of weight in a lower-grade contest.

He has run well in this grade before and dropping back in trip looks like a positive, as he gained his Yarmouth success last season at this distance and remains unexposed at the mile-and-a-quarter test.

16:13 Chepstow – Reporter @ 10/1

Michael Attwater's three-year-old REPORTER has more scope for improvement than a good few of the rivals he faces in the Tom's Big Bike Ride Handicap over the minimum five furlongs on the Chepstow card.

The gelded son of Wootton Bassett got on the scoresheet for the first time when landing a Class 6 Windsor event in June off a mark of 59 on his fourth start, after joining this yard from Ed Walker.

He didn't quite build on that over this C&D in July, finishing fourth, and has since proved a bit too keen at Brighton when fading from the front to be fifth in a stronger race than this.

He has been eased back to within 2lb of his winning mark and gets Benoit De La Sayette in the plate now, and there could be another sprinting success looming if he settles better.
