Great yarmouth racecourse

There are four race meetings in Britain on Tuesday and among them is the afternoon Flat card from Yarmouth. There are seven races scheduled at the seaside venue, with action from 14:25 through until 17:30 and ground conditions forecast to be 'soft'.

They have some quality action on offer, including a Class 2 maiden over a mile, and my three best Great Yarmouth Tips are below.

Yarmouth Betting Tips - Tuesday, September 16

  • 14:55 - Espona Bay @ 10/3
  • 15:25 - Spyce @ 7/4
  • 16:30 - Akrramm @ 7/2

14:55 - Espona Bay @ 10/3

ESPONA BAY could land this 7f Yarmouth nursery for a Michael Bell team that are in decent form.

The trainer boasts a 25 per cent strike-rate (5-25) from his runners over the preceding fortnight and this New Bay colt has improved on each of his three most recent starts.

The latest of those was over 6f at Chelmsford in last month's nursery bow. He was given a typical Jamie Spencer ride, patient at the back, before coming home strongly to beat everything bar the 6/4fav Demetrius from the Sir Mark Prescott yard.

Espona Bay is rated 2lb higher now back on turf, but has definite scope for better. He was clear of the remainder at Chelmsford and perhaps the winner was allowed too much rope.

James Doyle rides this time and there could be better to come on his second start in a handicap.

15:25 - Spyce @ 7/4

The likes of Hoo Ya Mal (runner-up in the Epsom Derby) and Naval Crown are smart performers who have emerged from York's Convivial Maiden in the recent past and it wasn't hard to be drawn to the run of SPYCE on the Knavesmire last month.

The Too Darn Hot colt was pitched into that £51k contest on debut by Alan King, suggesting that he had been showing promise at home.

He was in the rear throughout but really blasted home after running a touch green, getting closest in the end to the Ballydoyle-trained winner Frescobaldi, who had the benefit of experience.

Spyce, rated at 95,000 gns as a yearling, saw that price rise to 280,000 gns this year after impressing at the breeze-ups. He's a half-brother to a couple of useful winners and, with that debut run behind him, could improve enough to win here.

16:30 - Akrramm @ 7/2

Roger Varian puts AKRRAMM into a handicap for the first time in this Strawberry Fields Stud - We Sell Horses Handicap and the Too Darn Hot gelding could be nicely treated.

He's had three runs and easily the best of those came last month at Chelmsford in a mile maiden on his return from 292 days off.

He was third behind 87-rated winner Estmrar from the Simon & Ed Crisford yard, with next-time-out winner Shimmering Spin in second spot.

Akrramm was some six lengths clear of everything else. He should be sharper for the run and may be well served going up in trip from this opening mark of just 71.
