West Bromwich Albion are growing frustrated as their winless run in the EFL Championship has stretched to seven matches, with the Baggies drawing their last five encounters. They welcome fellow promotion-chasers Burnley to The Hawthorns on Thursday (20:00, Sky Sports Main Event), with the Clarets suffering a defeat to Millwall last time out.

Albion will be feeling like they have an excellent opportunity to get back to winning ways here, but so will the visitors. Read on for my West Brom vs Burnley prediction, alongside the latest match odds and team news.

West Brom vs Burnley Betting Tips

  • West Brom to win @ 13/10
  • Under 2.5 goals @ 8/15

West Brom vs Burnley Odds

West Brom are 13/10 to get back to winning ways here, which gives them a theoretical chance of 43.5%. Burnley are priced at 23/10 to pick up the three points, giving them an implied probability of 30.3%.

Both teams to score is available at 1/1 and over 2.5 goals can be backed at 11/8.

Albion striker Josh Maja has scored eight goals in the Championship so far, and he is 21/10 to score anytime on Thursday. Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill has five himself, and he is valued at 5/1 to find the back of the net at any stage during this contest.

Team News

West Brom are extremely short at centre-back with Carlos Corberan's main duo of Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi currently out injured. Torbjorn Heggem and loanee Mason Holgate have been filling in at the back in their absence and should continue there again on Thursday.

Another loan star, Paddy McNair, is sidelined with a hamstring injury, so it appears as though he will not feature for the Baggies again before he is due to return to San Diego.

Daryl Dike has recently returned to light training, having missed most of the year with another lengthy injury. He is expected to be back in contention after Christmas.

Alex Mowatt is currently West Brom's most consistent deeper midfield player, while Uros Racic and Jayson Molumby have been competing for the other spot in the engine room.

Corberan has changed his attacking stars around a few times this season. Maja feels like the only person guaranteed a spot in the starting lineup on Thursday, while the likes of Grady Diangana, Karlan Grant, Jed Wallace, John Swift, Mikey Johnston and Tom Fellows are competing against each other for the spots behind.

For Burnley, they are missing their main forward Lyle Foster due to injury. Manuel Benson, Mike Tresor and Nathan Redmond are also in the treatment room, limiting Scott Parker's options at the top end of the pitch.

West Brom to win @ 13/10

I know this seems like a long shot with Albion missing their preferred centre-back pairing, but seven games without a win has me believing that their fortunes have to change soon.

With the options available higher up the pitch, the Baggies should be doing a lot better than they are at the moment, but they will be grateful that they have at least been picking up points along the way.

Burnley are also looking for a win after failing to claim three points in any of their last three league appearances. They suffered a surprising defeat to Millwall at the weekend, so I sense that they could be feeling vulnerable heading to the West Midlands.

This won't be an easy game for West Brom to win but I think the home advantage can play its part, as well as the sheer desperation to end their winless run.

I'm expecting a cagey game, and one that I don't think will feature a lot of goals, but considering they've drawn five on the bounce, I fancy Albion to find an extra gear against a depleted Burnley side to secure the three points they crave, which might just be a catalyst for Corberan and his players.

Under 2.5 goals @ 8/15

I've mentioned that I don't think there will be many goals in this clash, so I also think backing under 2.5 goals is a smart way to go on Thursday night. It has been a winning selection in nine of West Brom's 13 Championship fixtures this season, including all six of their clashes at The Hawthorns.

For Burnley, under 2.5 goals has landed in 10 of their 13 matches, and six of their seven trips on the road have seen less than three scored. I think this points to us getting a low-scoring affair at The Hawthorns.

Albion have been struggling for goals of late, which has probably been impacted by their winless streak. A scrappy win here could help them regain their confidence and get them back to where they were earlier in the campaign.

The Clarets have also been having problems in front of goal, scoring just once in their last three. The form guide suggests this won't be a thriller by any means, but both sides won't care as long as one of them can come away with a victory.
