Easter weekend sees the return of the Championship and we have a Good Friday evening (20:00) blockbuster on the cards as Watford host table-topping Leeds United.

We've previewed the big game and given our Watford vs Leeds prediction.

Watford vs Leeds Betting Tips

  • Leeds to win to nil @ 13/8
  • Wilfried Gnonto first goal scorer @ 5/1

Watford pulled the plug on the Valérien Ismaël era after just 10 months in charge, following a dismal run of just one win in 10 games saw them fall down into the bottom half of the table. Up stepped former player and current U-18s manager Tom Cleverley on an interim basis, while the Pozzo family seek out their 20th full-time manager in the last 11 years.

The Hornets should be safe enough in mid-table to avoid being dragged into a late relegation battle, but they need to try and find some momentum moving into the new season with an eye on a promotion push. That could be easier said than done though against the form team in England.

Leeds United's 2-0 win over Millwall took them to the top of the second-tier table for the first time this season, as long-time leaders Leicester City have started to flag badly. Twelve wins from their last 13 games have seen the Whites brush all contenders aside and they sit proudly atop the Championship with just eight games to play.

Daniel Farke's side will not be able to rest on their laurels though, with the Foxes possessing a game in hand and Ipswich Town just a solitary point behind the West Yorkshire outfit. The popular German will see this game on Friday night as a must-win to maintain their hold on the automatic promotion slots.

Team News

Wesley Hoedt is still serving his suspension and will be joined on the unavailable list by Jeremy Ngakia who is injured.

Farke is expected to stick to the same starting XI for the trip to Hertfordshire, with Jamie Shackleton a potential doubt and long-term absentees Stuart Dallas and Pascal Struijk still injured.

Match odds

The hosts come into this match as big 5/1 outsiders, with Leeds odds-on at 8/15 - implying a 65% chance of victory on the night. The draw is attractively priced at 16/5.

This is expected to be a high-scoring game, with over 2.5 goals at 4/6.

Leeds to win to nil @ 13/8

United have won their last three games to nil and six of their last eight so should have no issues in getting the three points here.

Meanwhile, Watford have scored just three times in their last four and are coming up against the meanest defence in the league that's conceded just 28 goals this season.

Wilfried Gnonto first goal scorer @ 5/1

The diminutive Italian is entering a hot streak as we enter the business end of the season. The 20-year-old has six goals in his last 10 appearances and has netted in Leeds' last two matches.

Betfred are running their famed Double-Delight/Hat-Trick Heaven promotion meaning if Gnonto scores the first goal and then goes on to score a second, he will be paid at double the odds (10/1). If he then nets a third you will be paid at triple the odds (15/1).
