Southampton vs Newcastle United Prediction: No quiet day at the office for Isak this time

Southampton's losing streak in the Premier League extended to a fifth game last Sunday, as they were beaten 3-2 at Nottingham Forest. The Saints remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just one win all season. They welcome Newcastle United to St Mary's on Saturday (15:00) hoping to turn their fortunes around.
The Magpies were stunned last Saturday when AFC Bournemouth bullied them 4-1 on home soil, despite the Cherries missing many players due to injury. It ended Newcastle's nine-game winning streak in all competitions, so they will look to get back on track down on the South Coast. Below you will find my Southampton vs Newcastle United prediction, featuring the latest team news and match odds.
Southampton vs Newcastle United Betting Tips
Southampton vs Newcastle United Odds
Southampton's solitary win this season did come at home against Everton, and they are 6/1 to beat the Magpies on Saturday. The visitors have drawn three games on the road this term, and the stalemate is marketed at 4/1.
Newcastle are 4/11 to get back to winning ways, but there is better value in combining this selection with both teams to score, which has landed in four of the last six meetings between the two teams in the Premier League. This is on offer at 6/4, which has an implied probability of 40%.
Southampton have failed to score in each of their past three league fixtures at St Mary's, so Newcastle are 7/5 (41.7%) to register a clean sheet.
Team News
The hosts are without the services of exciting young talent Tyler Dibling because of an ankle problem. The teenager is attracting a lot of transfer interest this month and German outfit RB Leipzig are though to be keen on signing the attacker.
Boss Ivan Juric is also without the services of Kamaldeen Sulemana (ankle), Jack Stephens (unspecified) and Ross Stewart (calf), but other than that, everyone else is available for the Saints.
Forward Paul Onuachu will be pushing to start after impressing in recent weeks, having netted against Forest last time out.
The striker could replace either Adam Armstrong or Cameron Archer in the final third. Mateus Fernandes should maintain his spot in the side behind the front men, while Yukinari Sugawara and Kyle Walker-Peters will provide the width as the wing-backs.
Newcastle travel south without Harvey Barnes (muscular), Callum Wilson (thigh) and Jamaal Lascelles (knee) due to injury, and it is hoped that all three will be in line to return at some point in February.
Goalkeeper Nick Pope is still recovering from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, so Martin Dubravka is going to continue in between the sticks at St Mary's. Defender Fabian Schar returned to the squad against Bournemouth and replaced Sven Botman for the second half.
Having recently returned from a long-term injury, it was thought at the time that Botman was taken off to ease his workload after featuring in a number of games since coming back.
Eddie Howe said the switch was made for "tactical reasons", so the Newcastle boss could opt to partner the two together for the first time this season, which would see Dan Burn drop down to the bench.
Winger Miguel Almiron is closing in on a return to Atlanta United in MLS, so his involvement at the weekend looks doubtful.
Newcastle to win to nil @ 13/8
Before conceding four goals against Bournemouth, the Magpies had kept clean sheets in five of their six-game winning streak in the Premier League. Last Saturday's display will have brought them back down to Earth, but they will be eager to tighten up at the back against the Saints.
It's a good game to have when looking to bounce back from an embarrassing home defeat like that, and Newcastle have more than enough quality to respond immediately and add to Southampton's woes.
The hosts are winless in 12 in the top flight, losing 10 in that time. I've mentioned how they have blanked in each of their last three league appearances at St Mary's, and bar a blip last week, they are coming up against a Newcastle team who have been strong defensively over the past month.
The Magpies will be fired up to deliver an instant response in their pursuit of the top four, and I think they will turn in a convincing victory to nil here.

Alexander Isak to score two or more goals @ 3/1
Newcastle striker Isak saw his record-breaking scoring streak come to an end against the Cherries. The Sweden international had scored in eight consecutive games in the league and it felt like he had a chance of going for Jamie Vardy's record of 11 from 2015/16 given the form he was in.
It's back to square one now for the Magpies attacker, and after a very quiet day at the office on Tyneside last Saturday, I predict he will be back with a vengeance this weekend.
Southampton have the second-worst defence in the top flight, having shipped 50 goals in 22 matches, and the Saints have conceded at least three goals in their previous three outings.
Isak has 15 goals in the Premier League and is hot on the heels of Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot. I think he will bring his shooting boots to Southampton, and I think 3/1 is a great price for him to bag a brace - which he has managed twice already this campaign.
