Team News

South Korea have been sweating over the availability of key midfielder Hwang In-beom. The Feyenoord star has had an injury-hit season. Thigh and calf issues sidelined him for periods during the autumn and winter. Then an ankle injury in March threatened to put paid to his World Cup ambitions altogether.

Football Odds

Games like this friendly are key for easing Hwang back to fitness. He is more than likely to play a part, though the 29-year-old is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes after months on the sidelines.

Trinidad are without Wayne Frederick II, Tyrese Spicer and Luke Singh through injury. Rio Cardines also doesn’t travel, having been allowed to concentrate on Crystal Palace’s successful Conference League final.

South Korea vs Trinidad & Tobago Predicted Lineups

  • South Korea: Kim Seung-gyu; Lee Han-beom, Joo-Sung Kim II, Kim Min-jae, Lee Tae-seok; Seol Young-woo, Paik Seung-ho; Lee Jae-sung, Lee Kang-in, Kim Jin-gyu; Son Heung-min
  • Trindiad & Tobago: Smith; Jackie, Garcia, Powder, Greene; Muckette, Gilbert, Rampersad, Telfer, Garcia, Moore

South Korea vs Trinidad & Tobago Odds

South Korea are clear favourites at 1/7 while the draw is marketed at 6/1. If you fancy the underdogs to do the job, you can back Trinidad at 14/1.

South Korea vs Trinidad & Tobago Stats

  • South Korea have won five of their last 10 international matches
  • Trinidad & Tobago have not qualified for the World Cup since their sole tournament appearance at the 2006 tournament

South Korea to win and both teams to score @ 15/8

This game is realistically a confidence builder for the Taegeuk Warriors. They have lost their last two international outings. South Korea are arguably still smarting from Brazil’s ruthless 5-0 drubbing of them in October.

So this game will be a chance for coach Hong Myung-bo to inject some belief in his boys. The return of Hwang In-beom is a boost, though the midfielder is unlikely to play the full 90.

I think Trinidad can take advantage of their opponents trying to play their way into form. I think the underdogs bag a goal, before succumbing to a superior on-pitch force.

Over 3.5 total goals @ 1/1

When South Korea start rolling, I doubt they will stop. A Trinidad & Tobago goal will leave us needing three from the favourites and that is well within their capabilities. Heung-min Son might be 33 now, but he is still a cut above the defence he will be facing.

PSG star Lee Kang-in is a potent attacking threat while striker Cho Gue-sung of Midtjylland is always handy in front of goal. I see no reason for the score to dip under four goals here, especially given my belief South Korea will concede.
