Slovakia vs Estonia Prediction: Slovaks can shutout Baltic minnows

Slovakia host Estonia in a Nations League Group C1 fixture on Tuesday, 19th November with the match kicking off at 7:45pm at Anton Malatinsky Stadium in Trnava. 

The Slovaks’ hopes of winning the section ended with a 2-1 loss away to Sweden on Saturday but they are assured of second place and qualification for a promotion play-off. Estonia nailed down third place with Saturday’s 0-0 draw away to Azerbaijan which maintained a three-point gap and a head-to-head advantage over their relegation rivals.

Slovakia's skipper Milan Skriniar was sent off in the 2-1 loss away to Sweden and must serve a one-game suspension. Cagliari defender Adam Obert is among the options to replace him and Slavia Prague attacker Ivan Schranz is pushing for a start after coming off the bench at the weekend. 

Estonia head coach Jurgen Henn may be pondering some changes now that his team are guaranteed to avoid relegation. However, he is unable to call on GKS Katowice defender Marten Kuusk, who has had to withdraw from the squad.

Slovakia are just 2/9 to win the match and move onto 13 points from six matches. The draw can be wagered at 5/1 while a shock Estonian win is priced up at 14/1.

Slovakia might not be at full strength for the final match of their Nations League Group C1 campaign but they should have no problems finishing off with a victory and a shutout against Estonia. 

The Slovakians were engaged in a head-to-head battle with Sweden at the top of the section and have fallen just short. 

However, they competed well in a couple of tight matches against the talented Swedes, drawing 2-2 on home soil and losing 2-1 in Stockholm. 

Slovakia won each of their other three matches, including a September 1-0 success away to Estonia when they won the shot count 26 to six. 

Estonia have resorted to a defensive style of football and are perhaps fortunate to have avoided relegation given that their XG (3.15) is the lowest in the group and their XG against (11.28) is by far the highest. 

The Baltic outfit are assured of finishing third but It is hard to see them opening up against Slovakia and the upshot could be a solid, unspectacular success for their opponents.

Ivan Schranz to score the first goal @ 11/2

Ivan Schranz was Slovakia's star man at Euro 2024, scoring three goals, and he may be ready to make a belated impact on the Nations League. 

Schranz has been working his way back to fitness after a knee injury and his clever movement and finishing skills could be key to breaking the deadlock.
