Sheffield United held on to earn a 2-2 draw against Coventry City last time out, despite playing the entirety of the second half with 10 men after Anel Ahmedhodzic was sent off for throttling Norman Bassette. Next up for the Blades comes a home test against Oxford United (19:45, Sky Sports+), with the U’s slightly struggling for points after a strong start to the season.

Below you can find my Sheffield United vs Oxford United prediction featuring team news and betting tips.

Sheffield United vs Oxford United Betting Tips

  • Sheffield United -2 handicap @ 7/2
  • Tyrese Campbell to score 2 goals or more @ 9/1

Team News

Chris Wilder will have to make do without Ahmedhodzic as the centre-back is suspended, with Jack Robinson certain to come into the defence in his absence. Gustavo Hamer and Callum O’Hare were taken off early against their former club, but both should be able to play in this one.

Oliver Arblaster is out for an extended period of time for the Blades, meaning Sydie Peck should start in the heart of midfield. There is some concern around Vinicius Souza, as he was left hobbling on the CBS turf as he battled on to complete the full 90. Kieffer Moore and Rhian Brewster could return to provide some competition for Tyrese Campbell, but Campbell is set to lead the line yet again, with O’Hare playing in the number 10 role.

Oxford are currently without Joseph Bennett, Kyle Edwards and Siriki Dembele and having conceded six to Middlesbrough, Des Buckingham may choose to rotate his side. Josh McEachran and Matt Phillips could come into the XI to provide some more stability while once again the manager will have to choose between Dane Scarlett and Mark Harris to lead the line.

Sheffield United vs Oxford United Odds

Sheffield United are priced at 4/9 to win this game, which gives them an implied win probability of 69%. Meanwhile Oxford are available at 13/2, a draw is 16/5 and over 2.5 goals is 10/11. BTTS is 11/10 and Campbell is the favourite to score first at 9/2.

Sheffield United -2 @ 7/2

This should be a straightforward home victory. Sheffield United have won six and drawn one of their home matches so far this season, scoring 10 and conceding just twice in that time. If they had not picked up a two-point deduction at the start of season, the Blades would be top of the table. As it stands, they are level on points with both Leeds United and Sunderland and Wilder is doing a superb job steering them into promotion contention.

Oxford on the other hand are sliding down the table, with just one win in their last 11 outings. The Blades should be able to dismantle Oxford with all of their quality, and I’m expecting a big home win with plenty of goals to boot. United haven’t torn teams apart this season, but against an Oxford side that conceded six last time out, they could have a field day.

Tyrese Campbell to score 2 goals or more @ 9/1

Campbell has been sensational since coming into the team, and he seems to fit this Sheffield United seem far better than the likes of Moore or Brewster. With Hamer and O’Hare often both picking up the pockets in between the defensive lines, they need a striker who can run in behind and get on the end of through balls.

Campbell has been superb, and has now scored four in his last five appearances, including the opener at the weekend v Coventry. Against Oxford I’m expecting him to be able to find the net on a couple of occasions and am happy to back the 24-year-old to score twice at 9/1.
