Torino vs Sassuolo Prediction: In-form Serie A sides size each other up

Torino welcome Sassuolo to Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino (19:45 BST, DAZN) in Serie A. It has been a season of two halves for the home side. The arrival of Roberto D'Aversa in February has seen Il Toro go from battling the drop to eyeing a top-half finish. Currently 13th, they’ll need a win here to kickstart their bid to battle their way up the league.

Former Southampton striker Che Adams is a doubt with a thigh problem. Torino are also missing Duvan Zapata with another thigh complaint. 

Joining on the sidelines will be Marcus Pedersen, Zakaria Aboukhlal and Ardian Ismajli.

Sassuolo have forward Alieu Fadera suspended. The visitors also have Darryl Bakola, Fali Cande, Daniel Boloca and Edoardo Pieragnolo on the injured list.

Both sides have shown they can hold their own against the giants of Serie A in recent weeks. Sassuolo managed a 2-2 draw with newly-crowned champions Inter Milan. Torino managed a 2-0 victory over AC Milan. Both teams are capable of a big result.

But each side also has their failings. A wave of D’Aversa-inspired momentum was stymied by Torino’s 2-0 loss to Udinese last weekend. That was their first defeat in five games, which shows how well the new manager has implemented his ideas.

Sassuolo have been in fine form, but a 2-1 loss to Genoa last month blunted the positivity of a victory by the same score against high-flying Como. 

Both teams are largely playing well, with some frailties evident on closer inspection. I can see Torino and Sassuolo cancelling each other out for a hard-fought draw.

The reasoning is sound for this one. Torino have found the net in six of their last eight games. Sassuolo have registered at the same rate, scoring in six of their previous eight outings too.
