Parma vs Cagliari Prediction: Pellegrino is the home side’s best threat

Parma meet Cagliari this Friday, February 27 (19:45GMT, DAZN) in a mid-table clash in Serie A. The 12th-placed hosts will be hoping 13 is not their unlucky number as they face the side who sits just one place below them.

Team News
Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki could return to the matchday squad after recovering from a serious hand fracture. But back-up shot-stopper Edoardo Corvi is still likely to start.
Abdoulaye N’Diaye remains sidelined after surgery to correct pubalgia. Parma head coach Carlos Cuesta will also have to do without Pontus Almqvist (thigh) and Matija Frigan (ACL).
Former Everton centre-half Yerry Mina is suspended for Cagliari. On the injury front, midfield Luca Mazzitelli is nursing a calf problem while thigh injuries sideline Alessandro Deiola and Gianluca Gaetano.
Cagliari head coach Fabio Pisacane is also missing Gennaro Borrelli, Andrea Belotti and Mattia Felici.
Parma vs Cagliari Predicted Lineups
- Parma: Corvi; Circati, Troilo, Valenti; Del Prato, Bernabe, Keita, Sorensen, Valeri; Strefezza; Pellegrino
- Cagliari: Caprile; Ze Pedro, Rodriguez, Dossena, Obert; Palestra, Adopo, Sulemana, Idrissi; Esposito, Kilicsoy
The home side are favourites at 6/4 but Cagliari are not far behind, priced at 2/1. The draw is marketed at 2/1.
Both teams to score is on-site for 11/10 while it’s 7/4 for Parma to net more than 1.5 goals.
Parma vs Cagliari Stats
- Parma’s 1-0 victory over AC Milan in their most recent fixture was their first win against the Rossoneri at San Siro since 2014
- Cagliari have beaten Champions League-chasing Roma and Juventus this season, but have also drawn with Verona and Pisa, the Serie A bottom-two
Parma to win to nil @ 5/2
Neither of these sides are free-scoring outfits. Parma’s 19 goals make for the second-worst record in the league while Cagliari can boast the ninth-least strikes with 28.
But the key here is that Parma are a hard team to beat. Just ask AC Milan, who suffered a smash-and-grab 1-0 loss to the Crociati last weekend.
After shipping four goals apiece to Juventus and Atalanta, Parma have tightened up. Three victories have followed, with just one goal conceded. On home turf with their tails up after conquering the Rossoneri, I can see Parma clinching a victory with a clean sheet to boot.

Mateo Pellegrino to score anytime @ 9/5
A lethal header of the ball who can also expertly bring others into play, Pellegrino is integral to what Parma do. The 24-year-old has 10 goals from 27 games in all competitions as well as a pair of assists.
I expect Parma to look to their best attacking outlet here, which means Pellegrino getting himself on the scoresheet before all is said and done.
