Over 2.5 Goals Tips - Saturday 25 November, 2023:

  • Back Over 2.5 Goals in Sheffield United vs Bournemouth @ 4/5
  • Back Over 2.5 Goals in Plymouth Argyle vs Sunderland @ 1/2
  • Back Over 2.5 Goals in Cheltenham Town vs Oxford United @ 5/6
  • Back Over 2.5 Goals in Wrexham vs Morecambe @ 1/2
  • Back Over 2.5 Goals in Tonbridge Angels vs Havant & Waterlooville @ 8/11
  • Overall Odds - 11/1

Leg 1 - Over 2.5 Goals in Sheffield United vs Bournemouth @ 4/5

Both of these sides are among the top-tier when it comes to this bet landing in the Premier League. The home side are nine of 12 with the visitors having seen this play come in on just one fewer occasion.

Two porous defences facing off against one another is always an opportunity for this bet to come good. Sheffield United have conceded 31 times so far this campaign, with the Cherries only slightly better at 27.

Neither club are exactly prolific in front of goal but this is a relegation six-pointer. Both teams know they won’t get many opportunities to win games, so when they have one, they have to go for it. I think this is a wide-open encounter and goals will flow as desperation increases.

Leg 2 - Over 2.5 Goals in Plymouth Argyle vs Sunderland @ 1/2

Paying customers at Home Park so far this season have certainly been treated to a plethora of goals and these contests have fast become a staple play for me in this column. The last game played there was a 3-3 thriller and yes, I put them in the piece that week.

Argyle are four from their past four in terms of Over 2.5 and games in front of their own fans have been good on 87% of their league games so far this season. Only a 0-2 home defeat to Millwall, has seen them fall short of a 100% record.

Both teams have been strong for this statistic, with the home side at 75% for all games and the visitors coming in at 69%. Even if Sunderland weren’t great, this feels like a solid leg just based on recent history down in the south west.

Leg 3 - Over 2.5 Goals in Cheltenham Town vs Oxford United @ 5/6

A new era for Oxford United, after the shock departure of Liam Manning, starts on Saturday with a trip to Cheltenham.

The appointment of fan Des Buckingham has rejuvenated a dejected fanbase, who saw the departure of the popular former manager as potentially derailing a promotion push that looked to be firing on all cylinders. His success over in New Zealand and India has renewed hope that the promised land of the Championship is still very much in play.

Heading into Saturday’s game, no team in League 1 have a better record for Over 2.5 hitting than the U’s. Cheltenham on the other hand are one of the poorer teams for this bet, having only seen it come in five times from 16.

Anytime a new manager is in the dugout, expect a strong performance. It isn’t as though Liam Manning left because he did a bad job, he chose to take the job at Ashton Gate. I like Oxford to score two or three and that gives this leg every chance of success.

Leg 4 - Over 2.5 Goals in Wrexham vs Morecambe @ 1/2

I always like this leg when Wrexham are playing at home. When they are on the road, it is a completely different story but at the Racecourse Ground, they are a strong Over 2.5 and/or BTTS play.

Last time out, they won 2-0 to see their eight-straight League 2 home-streak of Over 2.5 Goals snap. This is a great opportunity to start another run. Phil Parkinson’s side are incredibly just 50% for Over 2.5 for the season, which shows just how stark the differences are between their results home and away.

Morecambe are 62% for the season and their record is the inverse of their opposition this weekend. Only twice on their travels has the bet not landed compared to only coming in just three times at the Mazuma Stadium. All signs point to goals.

Leg 5 - Over 2.5 Goals in Tonbridge Angels vs Havant & Waterlooville @ 8/11

I do like a trip down to the non-leagues and we round out this fivefold with the game at Longmead, where bottom-of-the-table Havant & Waterlooville make the trip to Kent in terrible form and surely will go away with no points.

The Hawks have conceded 41 times in just 18 games, the next worst defence in the National League South have let in five fewer but in two more games. This has not been a good year for fans of the Hampshire-based club.

As for the Angels, they are comfortably middle-of-the-table but very much are within striking distance of the playoff places. At under 50% for the season in terms of Over 2.5, you might question this selection but the visitors are up at 61% and have seen this bet come up trumps in five of their past six in the league. I like Tonbridge to win this 2 or 3-1.
