  • Back BTTS Yes in Bristol City vs Middlesbrough @ 8/11
  • Back BTTS Yes in Portsmouth vs Blackpool @ 8/11
  • Back BTTS Yes in Crewe Alexandra vs Doncaster Rovers @ 8/15
  • Back BTTS Yes in Swindon Town vs Mansfield Town @ 8/15
  • Back BTTS Yes in Chesterfield vs Eastleigh @ 8/11
  • Overall Odds - 11/1

Leg 1 - Bristol City vs Middlesbrough @ 8/11

Let’s get the recent form out of the way early here as I need to explain my thought-process. Bristol City have not been involved in a BTTS game in their past five. That is a really bad run and on the face of it, makes any selection where you think that will change seem fanciful.

However, a new man has been installed in charge at Ashton Gate and Liam Manning comes into the job having left the joint-best team for this stat in League 1. His teams traditionally play on the front foot and create chances. This will be his first game in charge in front of the home supporters and you have to expect that his side will be well up for it.

Middlesbrough have started smashing in goals left, right and centre on their travels. They’ve found the back of the net 17 times in their past six in all competitions. This feels like a strong opening leg to me.

Leg 2 - Portsmouth vs Blackpool @ 8/11

Pompey are still just about leading the pack in League 1 but their early-season defensive strength has been ebbing away somewhat. The loss of star defender Regan Poole for the season is a serious blow to their promotion aspirations and they’ll need to either find a replacement from within the squad or do business in January.

They’ve conceded now in four-straight games. Having started the campaign as one of the lowest sides in the division in terms of BTTS, they are now tracking at over 50%. Last time out, they gifted Charlton two goals.

Blackpool have found the back of the net 21 times in their past nine, with only Bolton managing to keep them off the scoresheet. They have every chance of troubling the scorers again at Fratton Park and you always have to like Pompey to score at least once at home.

Leg 3 - Crewe Alexandra vs Doncaster Rovers @ 8/15

The Railwaymen had been a BTTS and Over 2.5 star throughout the season but once the clocks went back, it was like they turned into a pumpkin, or turned into a team that didn’t both score and concede. You know what I mean.

A 0-2 home defeat to top-of-the-table Stockport County was followed by a 0-1 win on the road at Harrogate and then a 1-0 victory against Notts County completed a three-game skid for backers of both bets. Well it is time for them to get back on that horse. Despite that poor run, they are still at 65% for their League 2 campaign.

Doncaster are not the best when it comes to BTTS landing but they are over 50% since the start of the season. Away from home, they have found the back of the net in seven of their previous nine matches. So despite this being a promotion contender against a side looking like a mid-table side, I like Donny to score at least the once.

Leg 4 - Swindon Town vs Mansfield Town @ 8/15

Swindon (like Crewe above) have been a regular in this column this year and with good reason. Even though they are in a shocking run of form in terms of results, they are still providing the BTTS goods far more often than not. The current streak is four league games on the spin and they are at 67% for the season so far.

Mansfield come into town sitting second in the table having taken all three points on seven-straight occasions. In five of those games though, they were unable to keep a clean sheet. Should be a good one at the County Ground on Saturday afternoon and I like both teams to score.

Leg 5 - Chesterfield vs Eastleigh @ 8/11

Considering they are top by eight points, the defensive record of Paul Cook’s Chesterfield side really isn’t the best. They are running at an incredibly high 75% in terms of BTTS being a winning bet through 20 games in the National League.

A surprise 2-1 reversal at Roots Hall last weekend was one of the shocks of the day but that BTTS and Over 2.5 still came in. With an FA Cup match on the horizon, it would not be a stunner to see their eyes drift slightly from what is in front of them.

Eastleigh make the journey north rocking a five-game BTTS streak. When you couple that with the home side’s penchant for letting in at least one, I like this final leg of the fivefold.
