Saturday BTTS Tips: 11/1 fivefold for 23 December

12 of the 14 teams came up with the goods (well at least a goal) a week ago but Hartlepool United and Hornchurch FC let us down, causing the 24/1 sevenfold to be a loser.
This Saturday we slim it down to just the five matches and an 11/1 price, looking to get our third double-digit odds Saturday BTTS winner of the season...
Saturday BTTS Tips:
Leg 1 - Leeds United vs Ipswich Town @ 4/7
This is the early kick-off so make note of that.
Playing the lunchtime game is often problematic as when a leg of an accumulator goes down before the other ones have even kicked off, it is always really galling. Therefore I tend not to put these matches in but when the early game is so obviously a BTTS pick, I just roll with it.
Last week it was the East Anglia Derby that filled this spot and it came good before Half-Time.
The past six league games at Elland Road have all seen this bet come in and Leeds have found the back of the net in every game bar one in front of their own fans. The Tractor Boys have scored in every game on the road. All the stats point to a strong BTTS selection and if it goes down, it will really buck the trend.
Leg 2 - Luton Town vs Newcastle United @ 8/11
This leg should not be a surprise for anyone who has watched Newcastle United away from home so far this season. Eddie Howe’s side seem to always find a way to concede.
On Tuesday they went to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea looked like they wouldn’t score in a month of Sunday’s. Yet, an absolute ricket from Kieran Trippier allowed the home side to equalise late on and eventually go through on penalty kicks. The only clean sheets they’ve earned away from St. James’ Park were at the San Siro, where AC Milan battered them and at Bramall Lane in that 0-8 masterclass, which was very much an anomaly.
Luton might be mired in the drop-zone but they’ve become a strong BTTS play in recent weeks. The Hatters have found the back of the net in five-straight games and this bet has been a winner in eight of their previous nine Premier League matches. I don’t like the Toon to stop them scoring and I do like the visitors to get at least one.
Leg 3 - Nottingham Forest vs AFC Bournemouth @ 4/6
Steve Cooper has been given his marching orders at the City Ground and having just won one of his past 13 Premier League games, it isn’t the biggest shock in the world. One thing we’ve seen time and time again though is that a change of manager will get a reaction from their side and I fully expect that to happen again this weekend.
Bournemouth make the trip north in excellent form having scored in every game since a 3-0 defeat at Goodison Park in early October. Andoni Iraola has certainly turned the ship around after an awfully bumpy start and you don’t go into any game now not expecting the Cherries to find the back of the net.
That holds true here and I would be surprised if the home side didn’t show up and play to their fullest knowing a new man in Nuno Espirito Santo has walked through the door. Impressing the new boss is important in all forms of life, even for a professional footballer!
Leg 4 - Plymouth Argyle vs Birmingham City @ 4/7
I’ve been doing these various Acca columns all season-long and I don’t think there is a team with a higher word count than Plymouth Argyle. They’ve already appeared in the Saturday Accumulator Tips this week and once more, they have found a way to make a double appearance.
The Pilgrims have found the back of the net in all bar one game at Home Park so far in the EFL Championship season. The hosts have been rocked this week by the departure of manager Steven Schumacher, who has determined that Stoke is the best place for him to continue his career. That decision though shouldn’t affect his side.
Birmingham under Wayne Rooney hasn’t exactly been a marriage made in heaven so far, but they are willing to give it a good go and we’ve seen very small green shoots of recovery in recent games. The Blues' got their first away win under the new gaffer at Cardiff and fully played their part in a cracking match against Leicester in the Monday Night Football.
The whole ‘no fear mentality’ that the new owners want Rooney to install on his side always makes me think they’ll play open attacking football. With that in mind, BTTS often becomes a strong play.
Leg 5 - Reading vs Wigan Athletic @ 4/6
Reading have become my sneaky go-to team in this column and it is now nine-straight EFL League 1 games where BTTS has been a winner. That run has seen them move up the table for this statistic to become the third-best in the division with 67% of their games coming up trumps for this bet.
Right below them in fourth-spot is Wigan Athletic at 62%. That is just the icing on the cake for me. I’m going to keep putting the Berkshire club in until their run finishes because they’ve just been money recently.
