Saturday Accumulator Tips: 13/1 fourfold for Saturday afternoon
We haven't had a double-digit winner now for six straight Saturday's. Boo-urns as the kids would say and the less said about last week, the better.
This time around we go just four-games deep with a 13/1 price at the time of writing...
Saturday Accumulator Tips:
Leg 1 - Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton - Home Win @ 4/5
We start our Saturday accumulator at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where the home side face Everton side, in what is probably the pick of the Premier League 3PM games.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have weathered an iffy patch and have come out the other side looking good. We saw them take apart a pretty shell-shocked Newcastle before doing a job on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground last Friday night. Dejan Kulusevski has looked in fantastic form, with the Swedish international a big part of why they are looking so good on the front foot so far this campaign.
Backing against Everton, who have won four games on the spin, is not for the faint-hearted. Sean Dyche has certainly galvanised the whole club since the ten-point deduction with the likes of Newcastle and Chelsea cast-aside in relatively comprehensive fashion at home. The Toffees have also won on the road at Forest and Burnley during this hot-streak.
Yet I like Spurs to get the three points. Everton are a decent Premier League side but their lack of attacking prowess concerns me when up against a team such as Tottenham, who will be happy to make the encounter feel like a basketball game, opening the pitch up for plenty of attacking football. I’m just not sure the visitors have the horses to keep up with the hosts.
Leg 2 - Norwich City vs Huddersfield Town - Home Win @ 8/13
Some behind the curtains stuff here but one of the writers here on Betfred Insights is a Huddersfield fan and often goes to their games. Last week he came into the office after their 1-3 defeat to Preston and it would be fair to say that he wasn’t exactly complementary of what he’d been witness to.
It has been a strange season for the Terriers, as it started with Neil Warnock in charge but that would prove to be short-lived as the powers that be seemed to grease the wheels for his departure to bring in Darren Moore. Results and performances however haven’t seen anything like the sharp upturn in fortunes that the owners would have been hoping for.
Norwich are very much a middle-of-the-pack team but they showed plenty of nous in the East Anglia Derby last weekend, taking a point away from high-flying Ipswich. The Canaries have won six of their 11 games at Carrow Road so far this season in the league and with a Huddersfield side coming in low on confidence, this feels like one of those days when the home side just rolls.
Leg 3 - Plymouth Argyle vs Birmingham City - Home Win @ 6/5
We are getting odds-against for the hosts down at Home Park on Saturday afternoon, which is surprising considering how resolute they have been in recent weeks, twice winning games deep into added-on time at the end of the match.
One thing that might be part of the equation is that Steven Schumacher decided this week that he wanted to swap Devon for Staffordshire. The manager who oversaw Argyle’s triumphant League 1 campaign last season believes that Stoke is the place for him to take the next step in management. This leaves a bit of a vacuum but their excellent home form still keeps me upbeat on this selection.
Birmingham have struggled since the appointment of Wayne Rooney as manager but a big 0-1 win at Cardiff last week saw the Blues pick up their first three-point haul on their travels since August. On Monday night, they were part of a thrilling match with table-toppers Leicester but came out on the wrong side of a 2-3 scoreline.
I like Plymouth’s players to band together though and grind out the victory despite the upheaval in the background.
Leg 4 - Carlisle United vs Cheltenham Town - Home Win @ 6/5
We finish up our Saturday fourfold this week with our first visit to Brunton Park this season. Backing the Cumbrians to win hasn’t exactly been a profitable experience so far this campaign, as the home side have only tasted victory three times in 21 outings in league play.
On Saturday though they face one of the few teams in League 1 to actually have a worse record. Cheltenham make the long-trip to the North West having only tasted victory once away from home this campaign and that was back in October.
This selection is very much a value-play looking not just at the two teams involved but the logistics. A 237-mile journey is not easy at the best of times but coming just two days before Christmas, when you are the team propping up the table and when you’ve won only the once on the road, I don’t like their chances.
This may well be the first and last time that I’m taking Carlisle in this column for the 23/24 season but getting odds-against to beat the bottom-of-the-table side just feels good.
