Bolton wanderers

Last Saturday's Accumulator went down in large-part due to a missed penalty at Stoke but I'm feeling confident that this week, we are very much in the game.

We go five-games deep with a 14/1 price as of the time of writing, looking to get our third double-digit win for this column so far this season...

Saturday Accumulator Tips:

  • Back Newcastle United to Win in Newcastle United vs Fulham @ 4/5
  • Back Plymouth Argyle to Win in Plymouth Argyle vs Rotherham United @ 8/13
  • Back Bolton Wanderers to Win in Bolton Wanderers vs Bristol Rovers @ 4/6
  • Back St Mirren to Win in St Mirren vs Motherwell @ Evens
  • Back Stamford to Win in Berkhamsted vs Stamford @ 8/13
  • Overall Odds - 14/1

Leg 1 - Newcastle United vs Fulham - Home Win @ 4/5

We start off with a game I have flip-flopped on since I was on the train this morning. I’m writing this on Thursday morning just after watching the Toon show a bit of naivety to succumbing to AC Milan in the Champions League and the memory of that result is still fresh in my mind.

Fulham come into this game on the back of smashing ten goals in two games at the Cottage as both Nottingham Forest and West Ham saw five goals scored against them. Marco Silva’s side also managed to grab three at Anfield and at home against Wolves. From nowhere, they have become a scoring machine. One to note for the Over 2.5 column that I’ll write later.

The home side still have a tonne of injury concerns and Kieran Trippier is set to miss out through suspension. Plenty of logic says that I should go the other way on this but this is a chance for Eddie Howe’s side to reset. European competition is now gone for the season and the battle starts to return to the Champions League this weekend.

You won’t get Newcastle at such a good price at home against anyone outside the top six very often, so it is a good time to back them.

Leg 2 - Plymouth Argyle vs Rotherham United - Home Win @ 8/13

The Pilgrims started the season so brightly but a terrible away record has seen them mired in the lower-echelons of the EFL Championship table. What is keeping them from the clutches of the relegation zone is a very strong record at Home Park.

Steven Schumacher’s side have taken 19 of their 23 points from games in front of their own fans. They’ve won six times down in Devon and with bottom-of-the-table Rotherham United making the long journey south having yet to win a game themselves on their travels, this has home win written all over it.

Leg 3 - Bolton Wanderers vs Bristol Rovers - Home Win @ 4/6

Ian Evatt’s side failed to return to the top-of-the-table on Monday night after going down to an impressive display from promotion-rivals Portsmouth in the Monday Night Football at Fratton Park.

The manager was not happy with the way his team performed and he’ll be glad that they return to the Toughsheet Stadium this Saturday, where the Lilywhites have won eight-straight in all competitions.

Bristol Rovers are mid-table and have been in solid form recently but Bolton look like one of the top two sides in the division and they’ll be a staple of many an accumulator this Saturday.

Leg 4 - St Mirren vs Motherwell - Home Win @ Evens

If Bolton will be a staple on many an accumulator, I’m not sure St Mirren will be but this is tremendous value for the home win. Getting Even-money on the Saints to take all the points in a game feels like one of the best bets across all the leagues this weekend.

Stephen Robinson’s side have taken an average of 2.13 points-per-game from matches at St. Mirren Park and only Rangers have come away with all three points.

Motherwell have not been good away from home having only won just the once to go along with four defeats from eight games. A couple of impressive draws have broken up the misery but they are very much in the relegation battle whereas their opponents are looking to be best of the rest behind the Old Firm.

Good home form against a team that struggles to win on the road. I won’t overthink this selection.

Leg 5 - Berkhamsted vs Stamford - Away Win @ 8/13

If Bolton will be on many a coupon and St Mirren should be on a few then the final leg of this fivefold is coming from completely off the reservation.

I’m going down to the Southern League Premier Central where the home side have not won a game since the middle of September and that was in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round. The last time Berkhamsted took all three points from a league game was on the opening day of the season. Yes they haven’t won in a whopping 19 league games.

Stamford are just a point outside the playoff places and have won three of their past four games.

This final selection is however primarily based upon the poor form of the home side as such a shocking record cannot be overlooked and offers a rare occasion where the odds-on away win feels like a solid play.
