Wolves vs Chelsea Prediction: Can Gomes turn Wolverhampton into city of Angels?

Friday 6th February 2026, 13:00pm

The team that “won” deadline day takes on the team that has enough players on loan to form their own league this Saturday, February 7 (15:00GMT) as Wolverhampton Wanderers meet Chelsea at Molineux.

Two very different aims for these teams. The visitors are shooting for a Champions League return while the hosts are desperately trying to scrape more points than Derby County’s 11 in 2007/08. Can Alejandro Garnacho have an impact that extends beyond bitter comments in the matchday programme? Can Wolves rely on their new guardian Angel? Read on for all that and more in my Wolves vs Chelsea predictions.

Team News

Chelsea have some injury headaches to endure ahead of Saturday’s trip to Molineux. Their back line is short of Levi Colwill (ACL) and Tosin Adarabioyo (hamstring). Midfielder Romeo Lavia isn’t expected back until the visit of Leeds United on Tuesday after a muscle injury.

Attacker Jamie Gittens was hooked in last week’s win over West Ham, and he is expected to miss out here. But Liam Rosenior could welcome back defender Reece James and ex-Wolves winger Pedro Neto after positive updates this week.

The hosts could hand debuts to deadline day arrivals Angel Gomes and Adam Armstrong. The first raised eyebrows, with the England midfielder swapping Monte Carlo for a spell in the West Midlands scrapping to one-up Robbie Savage-era Derby. The second raised fewer eyebrows, because Wolves are heading for the Championship and there is no one more Championship than Adam Armstrong.

Premier League Odds

Wolves’ mission to name an entire starting XI of players with the surname ‘Gomes’ will have to be put on hold. Defender Tati Gomes misses out with a hamstring injury. You’ll never see a team full of players called Ladislav Krejci. In fact, you won’t be seeing him at all on Saturday, as he’s out with an illness.

Wolves vs Chelsea Predicted Lineups

  • Wolves: Sa; S. Bueno, E Agbadou, Mosquera; H. Bueno, J. Gomes, Andre, Mane, R. Gomes; Arokodare, Hwang
  • Chelsea: Sanchez; Gusto, Badiashile, Chalobah, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Neto, Palmer, Estevao; Joao Pedro

Wolves vs Chelsea Odds

Wolves are 7/2 to win this Premier League game, something they haven’t done since January 3. Heady days when Ruben Amorim was still Manchester United manager and Stephen from The Traitors was yet to overtake Bruce Lee and the Clown from Slipknot as the most feared man ever to wear a jumpsuit.

Chelsea are 4/6 to score the win while the draw is priced at 3/1.

Wolves vs Chelsea Stats

  • Wolves have not had the same player score in two consecutive Premier League games all season
  • This season, Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez have scored more Premier League goals between them (17) than the entire Wolves squad combined (15)

Chelsea handicap -1.00 @ 7/4

If you had imposed a one-goal handicap on Chelsea every week this season, they would still have scored three more than Wolves this season. This is a side that have been as ruthless as they should be against the struggling sides since Liam Rosenior took over.

The west Londoners stuck three each past West Ham and Crystal Palace in their last two games. Before that was a 2-0 win at the Bridge over Brentford. For all the Will McKenzie jibes at the new Chelsea boss - it has yet to be proven whether he owns a briefcase - he has won six of his first eight games in charge of the most turbulent English club outside of the M16 postcode.

All signs point to another victory here, and with a goal or two to spare. Because Chelsea are back in form and because Wolves are, unavoidably, Wolves.

Joao Pedro to score anytime @ 7/5

The former Brighton man modestly told reporters Chelsea are yet to see the best of him, when he admitted to playing through injury. If he’s this good while hurt, the club should look at inflicting the exact same ailment on Alejandro Garnacho.

In a hotly-contested bracket, Joao Pedro has usurped Pedro Neto and ex-Chelsea boy Joao Felix to become both the best Joao and the best Pedro in recent Stamford Bridge history. Nine goals later and finally Clearlake have proof that if you buy every single Brighton player, one will come good in the end.

Can Joao Pedro score against a defence that has conceded more Premier League goals in 24 games than Chelsea did in Jose Mourinho’s first two years at the club? Probably.
