Premier League Stats & Best Bets for Week 22

  • Manchester United vs Manchester City
  • Saturday, 12:30
  • Live on: Sky Sports

Key stat: Man City have won more Premier League away games against Man Utd than any other visiting side (9), while only Liverpool (41) have scored more goals at Old Trafford than the Citizens (37).

Best bet: Michael Carrick couldn't have had a tougher start to his latest stint as interim head coach with Man City in town, followed by a trip to Arsenal. City have stumbled in the title race in recent weeks, dropping points in three consecutive matches, but a 10-1 hammering of Exeter and an excellent win in the Carabao Cup at Newcastle should see them arrive at Old Trafford with a spring in their step. Antoine Semenyo scored in both those matches (and should have had three) and I have been drawn into one of Betfred's popular bet builders here at what looks like a cracking price: Man City to win, Semenyo to score and Bernardo Silva to get a card. The Portuguese has been booked five times in 21 starts this season and is rarely far away from a scrap.

Bet: Back Man City to win, Antoine Semenyo to score and Bernardo Silva to be carded at 16/1 via Bet Builder

  • Chelsea vs Brentford
  • Saturday, 15:00

Key stat: Five of Chelsea's last eight matches have featured more than three goals, while there have been 61 goals in Brentford's 21 league games this season.

Best bet: A goal-laden start to Liam Rosenior's career in the Chelsea dugout, with 11 goals in his first two games in charge, and the trend should continue when Brentford make the short trip to Stamford Bridge. The Bees hit four goals at Everton in their last away match, with Igor Thiago netting a hat-trick, and will have watched Arsenal slicing through the Blues backline in midweek with glee. The reverse fixture saw the two sides sharing four goals and we could well see something similar here - we'll back Over 3.5 Goals.

Chelsea vs Brentford - Total Goals

Over 3.5

Odds correct at time of publishing.

  • Leeds United vs Fulham
  • Saturday, 15:00

Key stat: There have been three or more goals in 12 of Leeds' last 17 games, with eight of Fulham's last 11 going over the 2.5 goals mark.

Best bet: Fulham arrive at Elland Road in fantastic form, having won eight of their last 14 matches, including a 2-1 win over local rivals Chelsea last time out in the league. They face a Leeds side who were on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller at Newcastle in their most recent league game and generally offer entertainment at home - 70% of the matches at Elland Road have seen three or more goals. With all this in mind, I was surprised to see Over 2.5 Goals trading at an odds-against price and that's our approach here.

Leeds United vs Fulham - Total Goals

Over 2.5

Odds correct at time of publishing.

  • Liverpool vs Burnley
  • Saturday, 15:00

Key stat: Liverpool are averaging 14.7 shots per game in the Premier League this season, their lowest since 2001/02 (14.5), while their expected goals per game of 1.54 is their lowest in the league since 2015/16

Best bet: Liverpool have recovered from their mini-crisis earlier in the season and are now unbeaten in 11, including a hard fought point at the Emirate last time out. That match was however their second goalless encounter in three games and they have not been free scoring by any means this season. Arne Slot's men will surely have enough to overcome a Burnley outfit who are without a win in 12, losing nine, but it's unlikely to be a procession. We'll back the Reds to win and under 3.5 goals at even money.

Liverpool vs Burnley - Match Result And Total Goals Over/Under 3.5

Liverpool Win & Under 3.5 Goals

Odds correct at time of publishing.

  • Sunderland vs Crystal Palace
  • Saturday, 15:00

Key stat: Since the start of December, Sunderland have scored the fewest goals of any league team (four) and have the lowest xG total (6.6), while Crystal Palace have scored one goal in their last four matches.

Best bet: If there was a market for 'last game on Match of the Day' this one would probably be a heavy favourite given the recent form of both sides. Sunderland remain unbeaten at home but haven't won in six Premier League matches, while Palace have simply stopped scoring and come off the back of suffering one of the biggest FA Cup shocks of all time at sixth-tier Macclesfield. The reverse fixture was goalless and this could be an equally uninspiring watch. With under 2.5 goals just 4/6, we'll take a chance on under 1.5 goals at 2/1.

Sunderland vs Crystal Palace - Total Goals

Under 1.5

Odds correct at time of publishing.

  • Tottenham vs West Ham
  • Saturday, 15:00

Key stat: Tottenham have only scored five goals in the first half in 10 home league games this season, while West Ham have netted twice before the break in their 10 matches on the road.

Best bet: Tottenham played reasonably well for 20 minutes in the second half of their FA Cup clash with Aston Villa last weekend but it was another first half to forget for Thomas Frank's men who have come out of the blocks slowly more often than not in front of their own fans. West Ham are equally toothless before the break when travelling and are unlikely to push many men forward as they look to end a 10-game winless run. We can get bigger than 2/1 on a goalless first half and that's the angle.

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham - First Half Total Goals 2-Way

Under 0.5

Odds correct at time of publishing.

  • Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal
  • Saturday, 17:30
  • Live on: TNT Sports

Key stat: Arsenal have scored more set-piece goals than any other side in the Premier League this season (14), while only Bournemouth (14) have conceded more from set plays than Nottingham Forest (13).

Best bet: Nottingham Forest have lost six of their 10 Premier League home games this season, with all three of the managers they have tried struggling to find a solution to picking up points at the City Ground, and it doesn't get any easier with the visit of top-of-the-table Arsenal. The Gunners scored yet another set piece goal at Chelsea in midweek and given Forest's fallibility here, that's our approach for this one. Picking a goalscorer isn't straightforward given Mikel Arteta's men tend to spread out the goals, but Declan Rice is generally on free-kick duty as well as left-sided corners and is a much bigger price than Bukayo Saka here to assist a goal.

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal - Rice, D - Total Assists Over/Under +0.5

Over 0.5

Odds correct at time of publishing.

  • Wolves vs Newcastle
  • Sunday, 14:00
  • Live on: Sky Sports

Key stat: Both teams have scored in all 10 Premier League meetings between Wolves and Newcastle at Molineux, the most played exact fixture never to see a team keep a clean sheet in the competition.

Best bet: Wolves have finally come alive this season, unbeaten in their last three Premier League games -  earning more points from these matches than they had from their previous 22 combined - and hitting six in their FA Cup clash against Shrewsbury last weekend. They face a Newcastle side looking for their fourth win on the bounce so both teams will be having a go here and it should live up to its recent history of goals. We can get evens on both teams to score and over 2.5 goals on Betfred.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Newcastle United - Both Teams To Score and Total Goals Over/Under +2.5

Yes and Over 2.5

Odds correct at time of publishing.

  • Aston Villa vs Everton
  • Sunday, 16:30
  • Live on: Sky Sports

Key stat: Aston Villa have won their last 11 home games in all competitions, but Everton have kept a clean sheet in four of their last five Premier League away matches.

Best bet: Everton have had a couple of shockers at home in recent weeks, conceding four to Brentford and then getting two men sent off when failing to beat rock bottom Wolves, but their away form has been good, winning three of the last five. However, Aston Villa are unbeaten in all 13 of their Premier League games against the Toffees since their return to the division in 2019 and should have enough for a narrow victory in front of the Villa Park faithful.

Aston Villa vs Everton - Match Result And Total Goals Over/Under 2.5

Aston Villa Win & Under 2.5 Goals

Odds correct at time of publishing.

  • Brighton vs Bournemouth
  • Monday, 20:00
  • Live on: Sky Sports

Key stat: Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma has scored more Premier League goals against Bournemouth than any other opponent (five).

Best bet: Bournemouth's last five results in all competitions read: 3-3, 3-2, 2-3, 2-2 and 1-4 and you don't have to go much further back for the madcap 4-4 at Old Trafford. The Cherries guarantee goals at either end - but the traders haven't missed this and over 3.5 goals is just 5/4 here. To boost the goals price, we'll add in an anytime goalscorer in the form of Kaoru Mitoma. The Japanese winger has only scored twice this season in his 11 appearances but loves playing against Bournemouth and is showing signs of the form that got him into double figures in 24/25.

Bet: Back Over 2.5 Goals and Kaoru Mitoma to score at 5/2
