Uruguay are looking to succeed where Spain failed by beating a plucky, awkward Cape Verde side in Group H of the 2026 World Cup (11pm BST, 6pm local time, BBC One & iPlayer). The South American side stumbled in their opener, only managing a draw with Saudi Arabia. The result is a group that looked clear-cut on paper now hanging in the balance two games in.

Read on for my Uruguay vs Cape Verde Bet Builder tips ahead of the clash at Miami Stadium.

Uruguay vs Cape Verde Odds

Total goals under 2.5

Cape Verde moved mountains to keep La Roja off their backs in that famous 0-0. But I don’t think they’ll pull off another flawless defensive display under siege. Uruguay have 90 minutes of footage to analyse and players with the experience to unpick a resolute underdog.

But I do not expect Uruguay to go goal-crazy in Miami. You have to go back nine games, to their 3-0 win over Peru, to find the last match where La Celeste scored more than twice in an international fixture.

That run included the likes of the Dominican Republic, Uzbekistan and a 0-0 draw with Algeria. Uruguay should beat a Cape Verde side who they dwarf in terms of top-level pedigree. But Bubista’s men will be playing with confidence and I don’t believe they’ll get trounced.

Darwin Nunez 2+ shots on target

The attacking focal point in this post-Luis Suarez Uruguay team, the erstwhile Liverpool forward now plys his trade for Al-Hilal. Mercurial is a more charitable way of describing him than some of the Anfield faithful would offer perhaps. But there is an undoubted player of true quality beneath that luxurious ponytail.

Cape Verde will glimpse that player more than once I should think. Uruguay’s inexperienced attack relies on the Saudi Pro League player. From a tactical standpoint, it makes sense that he would get at least two bites of the proverbial cherry.

Giorgian de Arrascaeta anytime goalscorer

The only other player in this Uruguay squad to have exceeded 10 international goals, the veteran Flamengo attacker could benefit from an increased focus on Nunez. When Cape Verde load up on the ex-Liverpool goal-getter, I think de Arrascaeta will profit with a goal. Afford this man time and space at your peril.
