Igor Thiago to score
Given Newcastle’s midweek efforts and the fact that Brentford had a week off to prepare for this game, I’m going to lean away from backing a correct result for this game. I know how dangerous the Bees can be under Keith Andrews and they’ve won three of their last five, so could certainly get something here.
Instead I will start by backing a couple of goalscorers, starting with Igor Thiago. He’s now got 16 goals in 24 Premier League outings this term and is still battling it out with Erling Haaland for the Golden Boot, which is a remarkable achievement for the former Club Brugge forward in his first full Premier League season.
He hasn’t scored in his last three PL games but scored five in two prior to that and is probably due to hit the back of the net again this weekend.
Anthony Gordon to score
A man with just three Premier League goals to his name ended a barren domestic run from open play with a superb finish at Anfield last time out, and he remains once of the most likely Newcastle goalscorers.
We’ve seen how effective he can be in the Champions League this term, as he has scored six in eight group stage games. With Nick Woltemade misfiring, Gordon is my best bet for a Newcastle goalscorer.
Newcastle vs Brentford Bet Builder Stats
- Igor Thiago has scored 16 goals in 24 PL games
- Anthony Gordon has scored six in eight Champions League games
- Newcastle have had the most corners in the league this season

Newcastle most corners
Newcastle should be the more attacking team in this game on home soil, so I’m happy to back them to have the most corners in this one. The stats support this pick as well, Eddie Howe’s men are averaging 6.63 corners in their PL games this term, which is by far the most in the top flight - with league leaders Arsenal the next best on 6.17.
Brentford meanwhile are earning just 4.96 corners per 90, so if this trend continues this part of our Bet Builder should be a winner.
Woodwork to be hit
Another quirk of Newcastle this term is that they have hit the woodwork 14 times in 24 games, making them the second-highest team for this stat, only behind Manchester United. Given Brentford are fifth for this stat having struck the post or bar on 10 occasions, let’s add this fun pick to the mix to take our Bet Builder to 17/2.
