Arsenal vs Liverpool Prediction: All hail the provider?

League leaders Arsenal host Premier League champions Liverpool (20:00 GMT, Sky Sports Main Event) on what should be a cracking Thursday night of Premier League action. The Gunners have won five league games in a row and will look to take advantage of an out-of-sort Liverpool side.

Team News

After the win at Bournemouth, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is set to bring Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka back into the starting XI in the final third. Gabriel Jesus could also be given the nod ahead of the misfiring Viktor Gyokeres, while Ebere Eze may feature in midfield if he can displace Martin Odegaard.

Declan Rice is certain to start after his brace, and it's difficult to see Martin Zubimendi dropping out of midfield either. The back four featuring William Saliba and Gabriel should remain unchanged. 

Liverpool could welcome back Hugo Ekitike to the starting XI, although some keen Fantasy Premier League players have reportedly noticed that Liverpool's Head of of Rehab Physiotherapy sold Ekitike for Igor Thiago this week…

Federico Chiesa and Jeremie Frimpong are both pushing for starts as Arne Slot looks to inject some pace and impetus into his struggling side.

Arsenal are the favourites to win this one at 4/7, giving them an implied win probability of 64%. Liverpool are a massive 5/1 to take the win, which must be the longest odds they’ve been for a game all season, while a draw is 16/5.

Arsenal to win to nil @ 6/4

Arsenal have taken 28 points from a possible 30 at home in the league this season, and there’s no reason to think they will slip up against this poor Liverpool outfit. With Mo Salah and Alexander Isak out - and with waning confidence that Ekitike will return - I see limited attacking potential in this Liverpool side. 

They may have scored twice at Fulham, but they failed to break down Leeds, and Arsenal are the best defensive team in the league, having only conceded 14 goals in 20 outings. Interestingly, the Gunners have conceded in their last three outings, but in my eyes, they should secure a shutout and three points against Slot’s men.

Martin Odegaard to get an assist @ 3/1

Martin Odegaard, Arsenal captain, struggled to get going this season as a knee injury ruled him out for several weeks - but now he has plenty of minutes under his belt and looks to be getting back to his best.

Such an influential midfielder for this Arsenal side, Arteta is heavily reliant on him as a leader and a creator - and he’s now scored once and got two assists in his last three outings. I think he’s a massive price to bag another assist in this one.
