Germany vs Curacao Odds

Germany to win both halves

The gap between these two teams looks pretty seismic on paper, but I suppose we are going to see a few of these match-ups across this new expanded 48-team tournament. Curacao are the ultimate minnows - the smallest nation to ever feature at the World Cup - and Germany should be able to dominate this opener.

That’s the perspective I have for this clash in Houston, and so I'm backing Germany to win both halves against the minnows, ranked 82nd in the world. Julian Nagelsmann knows nothing less than a big win in this opener will be deemed acceptable.

Kai Havertz to score

Having scored in the Champions League final, Arsenal’s Kai Havertz comes into this tournament looking fresh after a season of struggle with injury. He looks set to lead the line as Germany’s number nine, with a talented trio of number 10s set to line up behind him - and he should get off to a flying start against Curacao.

He got seven in 24 for Arsenal, and should certainly be able to grab at least one goal against a Curacao side that recently lost 4-1 to Scotland. Betfred's Sub Switch offer rolls your bet to the oncoming substitute, so you stay in the game, even when your player doesn’t.

Jamal Musiala to score and assist

I think Jamal Musiala is the superstar of this Germany team, but he also missed the first half of the season with a broken fibula. Again, we could see him be fresh and able to attack this tournament, and he was one of the standouts at Euro 2024.

Musiala should get the free role in Nagelsmann’s side and the Bayern Munich man is certainly one to watch in North America. I think he can bag a goal and an assist at a decent price against Curacao.

Leandro Bacuna to be carded

Leandro Bacuna is one of the most destructive midfielders in this Curacao team so I think it makes sense to back the captain to pick up a yellow card in this opener. He played almost every minute in qualifying and was booked for persistent fouling and time-wasting against both Trinidad & Tobago and Bermuda.

Dick Advocaat will instruct his side to be aggressive and break up play, so I think we could see a fair few cards, with the captain at the top of my list to pick one up.
