Team News

Paris Saint-Germain quartet Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, Joao Neves and Goncalo Ramos all missed Portugal's 2-1 victory over Chile last Saturday after linking up late with Roberto Martinez's squad following their UEFA Champions League final exertions. The four players should all get a runout on Wednesday, with a few likely to start, too.

Rafael Leao was sent off in the first half against Chile and is suspended for his country's friendly with Nigeria, but he will be available for their World Cup opener against DR Congo next week.

World Cup Odds

Neither of Nigeria's star men in attack, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, are in Eric Chelle's squad, with Terem Moffi and Akor Adams starting as their front two in last Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Poland.

Fulham defender Calvin Bassey is among those who could earn promotions to the starting XI in Leiria.

Portugal vs Nigeria Predicted Lineups

  • Portugal: D. Costa; Dalot, Dias, Inacio, Mendes; Vitinha, Fernandes, J. Neves; Bernardo Silva, Ronaldo, Neto
  • Nigeria: Okoye; Bewene, Ogbu, Bassey, Onyemaechi; Simon, Onyeka, Ndidi, Nnadi; Adams, Moffi

Portugal vs Nigeria Odds

Portugal are 1/4 favourites, implying an 80% probability of success, with Nigeria 17/2, or a 10.5% chance, to win, with the draw offered at 9/2.

Portugal vs Nigeria Stats

  • POR have conceded in three of their last five games
  • NGA have scored in their last five matches, conceding in three
  • Ronaldo (POR) holds the record for the most men's international goals (143)

Both Teams To Score - Yes @ 1/1

Portugal kept a clean sheet in their first two friendlies of the year, drawing 0-0 with Mexico on 29 March before beating the USA 2-0 three days later, and they looked set to keep a third consecutive shutout against Chile last week before La Roja struck an injury-time consolation in a 2-1 defeat.

Having been breached in their final three games of 2025, all World Cup qualifiers, Portugal have now kept just two clean sheets in their last five matches.

Nigeria, meanwhile, have scored in their last five games, conceding in three of those, too.

Last week, the Super Eagles shared four goals in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Poland in Warsaw, twice taking the lead, first through Moffi and then through Paul Onuachu.

Portugal thrashed Nigeria 4-0 in their only previous meeting in November 2022, with Bruno Fernandes bagging a first-half brace before Ramos and Joao Mario stepped off the bench in the second half to add further gloss to the scoreline.

However, I think Nigeria can grab a goal this time, with Portugal's players having one eye on their World Cup opener against DR Congo next Wednesday.

First Goalscorer - Cristiano Ronaldo (POR) @ 7/4

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who holds the record for the most men's international goals (143), was unable to add to his tally in last week's win over Chile, forcing one save and seeing his other two shots miss the target before he was withdrawn at half-time.

I can't imagine the 41-year-old will be happy to begin the World Cup without scoring in either of his country's warm-up games, with his last international strike coming in a 2-2 draw with Hungary last October, when he bagged a brace.

The Al-Nassr forward failed to score in two of his final three club appearances of the 2025/26 season, too, meaning he has now blanked in three of his last four games for club and country, something we don't see too often.

He's likely to start again on Wednesday, and you can bet he'll be firing shots off from all angles in order to grab that elusive goal in what could be his final outing on Portuguese soil.

At 7/4, he's worth backing to open the scoring in Leiria, particularly as he will be taking penalty kicks.
