Portsmouth had a nightmare on Saturday. Just four hours before they were set to kick-off against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, with thousands of Pompey fans already in the north-west ahead of the game. It meant the long journey was completely wasted, but now they return to the South Coast for Tuesday night’s fixture.

Millwall are the visitors to Fratton Park on Wednesday night (19:45, Sky Sports+) and below you can find my Portsmouth vs Millwall prediction featuring team news and betting tips.

Portsmouth vs Millwall Betting Tips

  • Under 2.5 goals @ 8/13
  • Colby Bishop to score anytime @ 23/10

Team News

After the cancellation on Saturday, we have no new clues about how Portsmouth will line-up for this one after the international break. John Mousinho will hope to build on the 3-1 win over Preston last time out but you cannot help but feel the momentum has been lost after Saturday’s events.

I’d expect Terry Devlin to continue his good form at right-back for the side, given he has impressed during his spell in the side having been completely left out of the squad on a regular basis earlier in the season. He could team up with the experienced Matt Ritchie on the right-hand side, while the best news from a Pompey point of view comes up front.

Football Odds

Last season’s top scorer Colby Bishop returned after heart surgery and found the net on his first appearance of the season prior to the break. He will be a major boost for Pompey and should make his first start if his fitness is up to it.

Millwall rescued a late point against Sunderland on Saturday as Femi Azeez scored in injury time. He could come into the team to start this game in place of Josh Coburn or George Honeyman, while Romain Esse and Duncan Watmore should start out wide.

Mihailo Ivanovic and Macaulay Langstaff are other options in the number nine role as Neil Harris could choose to shuffle his pack for this midweek test. Billy Mitchell remains sidelined through injury.

Portsmouth vs Millwall Odds

Portsmouth are priced at 21/10 to win this game, while Millwall are available at 11/8. The away side have an implied win probability of 42% while a draw is 9/4. Over 2.5 goals can be backed at 6/5, BTTS is 5/6 and Colby Bishop is the favourite to score first at 6/1.

Under 2.5 goals @ 8/13

Millwall are incredibly stingy when it comes to goals. Only four of their 16 Championship match have seen over 2.5 goals this season and while Portsmouth’s games tend to have plenty of goals, I think a stubborn Millwall outfit, who like to slow the game down and make life difficult, will spoil this game somewhat.

Pompey have not been that free-scoring this term yet I think they can find the net here, but more on that shortly. Overall, this should be a fairly low-scoring affair as Millwall once again rely on their defence to pick up a positive result on the road.

Colby Bishop to score anytime @ 23/10

I predicted this ahead of the weekend, and don’t want to stray too far away from my thinking. I believe Bishop is in line for a start in this one having scored off the bench against PNE and I feel he could make a major impression on their season.

Bishop bagged 21 goals in League 1 last season and Pompey’s attack was heavily geared towards him finding the net. Mousinho will be delighted to have him back and I think we could see a more dangerous Portsmouth side with him leading the line. After a lengthy absence, I think we are getting good value on Bishop to find the net here.
