Peterborough won the EFL Trophy last season and they can take another step towards another Wembley date when they host League 2 Cheltenham Town in the quarter-finals of this year's competition at London Road on Wednesday night (19:00 GMT kick-off, Sky Sports+).

Posh are having an unexpectedly tough season in League 1, lying 19th after Sunday's 3-1 loss at Bristol Rovers, while Cheltenham are 12th in League 2 after relegation last season, but have shown some recent improvement after a slow start to the campaign.

Team News

Peterborough continue to be without star man Kwame Poku, who is expected to remain sidelined for at least another couple of weeks with a hamstring injury.

Defender Jadel Katongo suffered a hamstring injury in the warm-down after the Rovers game and is unlikely to feature, while Romoney Crichlow left the club on Monday to join League Two Bradford.

Cheltenham defender Scot Bennett went off with a calf injury after just 18 minutes against Chesterfield on Saturday and is doubtful for this match.

Peterborough to win @ 4/5

Peterborough should have the motivation to want to progress as they are the defending champions in this competition and a home game against the only League 2 side remaining in the southern half of the draw is all they could have asked for.

This match gives Boro a perfect opportunity to put their League 1 worries to one side and try to get back to winning ways.

They have fared well at London Road in this competition to date, with home wins over Stevenage and Crystal Palace Under-21s in their group, before beating Northampton 3-0 in the first knockout round and League 2 pacesetters Walsall 4-2 in the round of 16.

The draw could play a big role in deciding who progresses as Peterborough are much stronger at home, while the Robins have struggled on the road.

Posh are unbeaten in their four home games in 2025, while Town have not won any of their last seven away games and have failed to even score in their last three road trips.

Correct score 3-1 @ 12/1

Peterborough lost 3-1 with a poor performance at Rovers on Sunday, but they could turn the tables in a competition that often sees them impressing to win by the same score against Cheltenham.

There have been three or more goals in four of Peterborough's five games in this competition and six were scored in their home win over League 2 Walsall in the last round.

Posh have not netted more than once in their last five League 1 games, but should be able to do better with their talented forwards going up against fourth-tier defenders.

Darren Ferguson's side have kept only two clean sheets in their last 12 matches, so with nothing to lose in a one-off game, the visitors can be taken to get on the scoresheet with what is likely to be a consolation goal.
