Palmeiras vs Porto Prediction: Tense battle expected in New Jersey

Palmeiras and Porto are expected to battle it out for top spot in Club World Cup Group A, placing extra emphasis on Sunday's meeting between the two sides at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey. Brazilian giants Palmeiras are one of the biggest names in South American football and they booked their spot at this expanded tournament following their Copa Libertadores success in 2021.
Porto filled one of the UEFA qualifying spots based on their four-year ranking, but the Portuguese outfit have endured an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign by their own high standards. Read on for my Palmeiras vs Porto predictions, as well as the latest match odds and team news.

Team News
Palmeiras will have teenage star Estevao Willian available, as the winger's impending move to Chelsea will not be completed until after this tournament.
Head coach Abel Ferreira does have a slight doubt over the fitness of former Bayer Leverkusen player Paulinho, who is struggling with a shin issue.
Marko Grujic has not been included in Porto's squad for this tournament due to a hamstring injury, but on-loan Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira is available, as is new signing Gabri Veiga, who joined earlier this month from Al Ahli.
Palmeiras vs Porto Stats
- Palmeiras have conceded just eight goals this season
- Samu Omorodion has scored 25 goals across the 2024/25 campaign
There is not much to separate the two sides in the betting, with Palmeiras priced at 7/4 and Porto 9/5. The draw is available at 9/4.
It is 10/11 for both teams to score in New Jersey, while Porto forward Samu Omorodion is favourite to score at any time at 2/1.
Under 2.5 goals @ 4/6
There does not look to be much between these two sides, which is reflected in the match odds, and it could well be a cagey affair with neither team wanting to give too much away against potentially their main rival to top the group.
Palmeiras are certainly a side who like to keep things tight - they have conceded just eight goals in Brazilian Serie A this season - while there have been just 20 goals scored across their 11 matches in that competition, which the lowest total of any side in the division.
Porto are a bit more free-flowing, but they have tightened up defensively following the arrival of Martin Anselmi as head coach in January, conceding just 19 goals in 18 matches under the Argentine.

Samu Omorodion to score first @ 11/2
Porto forward Omorodion has enjoyed an impressive first season with the club following his arrival from Atletico Madrid last summer, as his tally of 19 goals in the Primeira Liga was bettered only by in-demand Sporting CP hotshot Viktor Gyokeres.
Omorodion, who was part of Spain's squad for the recent UEFA Nations League finals, has netted 25 times in total across the 2024/25 campaign, while he ended the domestic season with three strikes in as many matches.
The 21-year-old is 2/1 to score at any time on Sunday, but in what is expected to be a low-scoring contest, there could be more value in siding with him to break the deadlock.
