Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth Bet Builder Tips: A card for Cook in 40/1 shot

Two of the Premier League's most in-form clubs, Newcastle United and AFC Bournemouth, meet in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off (12:30, TNT Sports 1) at St James' Park, with both sides looking to boost their respective pushes for the European places.
My last attempt at a Newcastle United Bet Builder saw three of four legs land as only Jurrien Timber fouls let us down for a 12/1 win in the Magpies' 2-0 Carabao Cup victory at Arsenal on January 7. Undeterred, I'm back this weekend with my Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth Bet Builder tips, and for this one, we're going even bigger as the four-legged effort pays out at a handsome 40/1.

Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth Odds
Joelinton (NEW) Carded
This first leg was a winner in my Arsenal v Newcastle United Bet Builder tips with Magpies midfielder Joelinton receiving a yellow card in the 42nd minute at the Emirates Stadium. The Brazilian made three fouls in north London, all in the space of 16 minutes, bringing his fouls per game average in the Carabao Cup this season up to 1.4 which is considerably lower than his two fouls per game average in the 2024/25 Premier League.
Joelinton made just a single foul in Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Wolves and avoided a booking but his league tally of seven yellow cards is still behind only Flynn Downes (Southampton), Sasa Lukic (Fulham) and Boubakary Soumare (Leicester City), all of whom have earned an extra caution than the 28-year-old.
Yellow cards aren't a new commodity to Joelinton who received six in 20 Premier League appearances (15 starts) last season while in his last 30-plus match campaign, in 2022/23, he was cautioned 12 times.
Joelinton has been booked three times in six career outings against Bournemouth, the most recent of which came in the reverse fixture at Vitality Stadium in August when the sides played out a 1-1 draw on the South Coast. The former Hoffenheim forward went into the referee's notebook for dragging down Cherries goalkeeper Neto, now on loan at Arsenal, with some pundits subsequently questioning whether he deserved to see red.
After going two games without a card, Joelinton could come out to play on Saturday.
Lewis Cook (BOU) Carded
I'm also backing Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook for a card as he may well be deployed at right-back, a position he played for the majority of Tuesday's 2-2 draw at Chelsea after James Hill was withdrawn through injury in the 22nd minute. With Hill doubtful of featuring on Tyneside, Julian Araujo and Marcos Senesi both injured and Max Aarons recently loaned to Valencia, Cherries head coach Andoni Iraola is left with few options in that area, so Cook could cover there again.
The 27-year-old committed a foul on Enzo Fernandez within seven minutes of his move to right-back at Stamford Bridge, and despite moving away from midfield, we can expect the one-cap England international to be in the thick of the action on Saturday up against the Premier League's second-most fouled player, Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, who operates from the left-hand side of their attack.
Gordon has been felled 44 times at an average of 2.2 times per game which is second only to teammate Bruno Guimaraes (68, 3.3 p/g) and he was taken down twice in midweek. The 23-year-old was fouled four times against Bournemouth in August with Bournemouth's right-back on the day, Araujo, responsible on one occasion. Cook, who gave away five free-kicks that day, was responsible for half (two).
Like Joelinton, Cook has been booked three times in this fixture, albeit one yellow was received in a Carabao Cup tie, and has avoided a card in his last eight appearances since a caution in a 2-1 defeat to Brighton on November 23, so the Cherries man is probably overdue one, and the conditions - in an unfamiliar position and against one of the division's trickiest wingers - are all there for the wait to end on Saturday.
Over 13.5 Bournemouth Shots
Only Manchester City (17.3), Liverpool (16.95) and Chelsea (16.3) are averaging more shots per game in the Premier League this season than Bournemouth (16.2), who have racked up 340 efforts after 21 matches played.
The Cherries recorded 16 attempts against Newcastle at the Vitality in August and have had at least 14 in 71.4 per cent (15) of their top-flight fixtures so far in 2024/25. They fell a couple short on Tyneside last season, shooting 12 times, but were leading from the 69th minute until the second minute of stoppage time.
Despite beating Wolves 3-0 in midweek, Newcastle allowed their opponents to shoot 13 times, the same number Tottenham Hotspur managed against them in their previous Premier League game and Spurs (20), Southampton (19), West Ham United (15) and Manchester City (16) have all recorded 14+ attempts at St James' Park this term.
Bournemouth to Hit the Woodwork
Bournemouth fire off plenty of shots and that's a large reason why they are second in the 'Woodwork Hit' Premier League table with only Chelsea (15) making contact with the woodwork more times than the Cherries (13) so far this season.
Iraola's side hit the woodwork once at Stamford Bridge earlier in the week and once against Newcastle in August, while the Magpies' woodwork was rattled twice by Wolves on Wednesday, the third league game in a row in which an opponent had hit theirs at least once (one v Spurs, one v Manchester United).
