Alex Neil got his first win as Millwall manager in the FA Cup as the Lions beat Dagenham & Redbridge 3-0 on Monday night, but now their attention must turn back to the Championship as they host Ruben Selles’ Hull City at 12:30 on Saturday, live on Sky Sports+.

Selles faces a big task to keep Hull in the league, but it is one he has taken to well, and the Tigers are now level on points with Portsmouth who sit outside the relegation zone. Below you will find my Millwall vs Hull City predictions featuring team news and betting tips.

Millwall vs Hull City Betting Tips

  • Hull to win @ 11/4
  • Under 2.5 goals @ 8/13

Team News

Neil named an incredibly strong team for the FA Cup game and given the level of performance, he could be tempted to name an unchanged XI. Mihailo Ivanovic could lead the line against Hull after scoring with his head in the cup, while Romain Esse is the focus point of some transfer speculation, and it would be telling if he is left out once again.

Josh Coburn remains absent with a broken foot, while Callum Scalon, Danny McNamara and Aidomo Emakhu are also likely to miss out. George Honeyman is expected to continue in the number 10 role with Caspar De Noore and George Saville in midfield, while Japhet Tanganga could be partnered by the returning Shaun Hutchinson. Long-serving striker Tom Bradshaw ended his seven-year stint at the Den this week, as he joined Oxford United in a permanent deal while they announced the arrival of former Hull man Aaron Connolly on Thursday.

Hull City are struggling with injuries right now. They were without Abdus Omur, Ryan Longman and Matty Jacob as they were booted out of the FA Cup by League 2 Doncaster Rovers on Sunday.

Things may have got worse for Selles as well. Midfielder Steven Alzate had to be replaced at half-time with a back problem, while Fin Burns also had to come off having been struck in the head by a ball. Gustavo Puerta picked up a knock but completed the game, while Omur may be fit to return against Millwall.

Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi are both out with ACL injuries, while Kasey Palmer and Charlie Hughes are sidelined until next month. Ecuadorian Oscar Zambrano is also banned but the arrivals of former Middlesbrough man Matt Crooks and Leeds striker Joe Gelhardt should ease their woes somewhat.

Millwall vs Hull City Odds

Millwall are priced at 11/10 to win this game having won six of their 13 fixtures at the Den so far this term, giving them an implied win probability of 47%.  A draw can be backed at 9/4 while Hull are 11/4 to win their fourth away game of the campaign.

Over 2.5 goals has come in during just 24% of Millwall's fixtures this season, giving them the second-lowest success rate in the league, only above Burnley. Over 2.5 goals is 11/8 BTTS is 11/10, and Macaulay Langstaff is 11/2 to open the scoring despite only finding the net once in the league this term.

Hull to win @ 11/4

I’m going to back Hull to come out on top in this game, as the two new managers meet. I’ve been impressed with the work that Selles has done so far and the Tigers pushed Leeds all the way in a 3-3 draw last time out in the league. He’s still got work to do and the injury issues aren’t helping him, but at least they have made moves to strengthen this month.

Gelhardt and Crooks are two proven Championship players who should be able to help lift them out of the mire, while I’d expect results to turn around over the second half of the season. I like the decision to appoint Neil at Millwall, but they have failed to win their last four league matches and I think it could take a little longer for him to get them playing his style of football. I'll back an away success at long odds.

Under 2.5 goals @ 8/13

It’s a short price for this market, but for good reason - I think it is bound to come in given what we have seen from these two teams so far. Millwall’s lack of entertainment has been a real issue this season and the proof is in the pudding in terms of this selection. Only six of their 24 matches so far this season have ended in over 2.5 goals while for Hull, their total is nine.

They both sit within the bottom five of the Championship for this particular statistic, and with both teams failing to fire, I think we will see another tight affair. Hull will want to keep things solid at the back, and I can see them coming away with a clean sheet.
