Middlesbrough and Michael Carrick may have a gargantuan Carabao Cup semi-final to come on Tuesday night, but first they must deal with lowly Rotherham United in the Championship, with kick-off at 15:00.

Middlesbrough vs Rotherham Tips

  • Middlesbrough to win -1 @ 5/6
  • Finn Azaz to score anytime @ 6/4

Team News

Middlesbrough this week rejected a bid from Aston Villa for Morgan Rogers, and it remains to be seen whether he will be included in Carrick’s XI, given the ongoing transfer speculation. With Emmanuel Latte Lath and Josh Coburn still out, Rogers is likely to be needed, along with January arrival Finn Azaz. Second-choice keeper Thomas Glover will continue in goal, due to Seny Dieng’s injury.

Leam Richardson will be without Grant Hall, Shane Ferguson, Cameron Humphreys and Tyler Blackett, as his defensive options are severely limited at this moment in time.

Match Odds

Middlesbrough are massive favourites for this one, priced at 2/7 to win this game, while Rotherham are 9/1 to come out with all three points. A draw can be backed at 9/2, over 2.5 goals is 8/13 and BTTS is EVS

Middlesbrough to win -1 @ 5/6

A fairly straightforward pick, but one I’m more than happy to get behind here. Middlesbrough have a far superior team, and manager, to Rotherham United at this moment in time and it is difficult to see the Millers’ season ending in anything other than relegation. They have improved slightly since Richardson came in, even beating Boro at home on Boxing Day, but away from home they’ve been woeful.

The away side have only picked up a paltry three points on the road so far this season, and are yet to win away from the New York Stadium. Boro meanwhile have won six from 13 at the Riverside, but will be expected to take all three points in comfortable fashion here. The -1 handicap makes for a backable price of 5/6, and Carrick’s men should have a field day against the worst team in the division.

Borotowin-1

Finn Azaz to score anytime @ 6/4

Plymouth Argyle got the best out of Finn Azaz before his January move to Boro, as he scored seven goals and bagged five assists during his time at Home Park. With Rogers’ future uncertain, Azaz could take the main goalscoring responsibility while the other strikers are out of the team.

He started up front in a 4-4-2 in the 3-1 win over Millwall last time out, and with this new attacking freedom, is likely to cause chaos amongst the Rotherham defence. I’m predicting a big win for the home side here, and Azaz can get off the mark for his new club.FinnAzaztoscore
