Mansfield v Port Vale Prediction: Slick Stags can reign supreme

Two of the lowest-ranked sides left in the EFL Cup clash on Tuesday evening and it’s a huge opportunity for either Mansfield or Port Vale to seal their spot in the last eight of the competition.

Mansfield are sitting fourth in League Two and they recorded a fourth straight win when beating Walsall 2-1 on Saturday. Port Vale, meanwhile, are at the wrong end of the League One table after Saturday’s loss at home to Cheltenham made it eight league games without victory.

Mansfield have beaten Championship opposition in Sheffield Wednesday as well as League One Peterborough on their way to the fourth round of the EFL Cup and manager Nigel Clough has been getting a fantastic tune out of the Stags this term.

Mansfield v Port Vale Betting Tips:

  • Mansfield to win @ 21/20
  • Mansfield to win to nil @ 5/2

Match Odds

Mansfield may be a league below Port Vale but the Stags are the 21/20 favourties to come out on top at Field Mill. Port Vale are 5/2 for victory and the draw is available at the same price.

Over 2.5 goals is a 4/5 chance with unders a 10/11 poke. Both teams to score can be backed at 4/6 while Mansfield are 5/2 to win without conceding.

Team News

Mansfield forward Lucas Akins suffered a head injury in Saturday’s win over Walsall and looks set to miss out. James Gale could fill the void, but Alfie Kilgour, Rhys Oates, Stephen Quinn and Elliott Hewitt are sidelined..

Kofi Palmer and Mitchell Clark have been added to a long Vale injury list. Ben Garrity and Jason Lowe weren’t fit enough to start at the weekend and Conor Grant, James Wilson and Alex Iacovitti have all been missing in recent weeks.

Mansfield to win in 90 minutes @ 21/20

Mansfield have been on an excellent run under Clough and the Stags can book their place in what could be a lucrative last eight tie of the EFL Cup.

The Stags have won four League Two games on the bounce, a run in which has seen them brush aside Harrogate and Notts County 4-1, which is a superb effort given the quality of the division this season.

Clough’s men are unbeaten in 19 matches in all competitions this term and they have already managed to claim the scalp of a Championship side in Sheffield Wednesday as well as overcome a strong League One side in Peterborough.

The Stags are cutting a quality outfit and they should be too strong for a Port Vale side that have won only one of their last ten games.

Mansfield to win to nil @ 5/2

Scoring goals has proved a major issue for Port Vale this season with Andy Crosby’s side having hit only two goals in their last seven matches.

That’s a dire return and it’s no surprise when you consider that the Valiants have recorded only ten shots on target across their last four away matches.

A trip to Field Mill doesn’t represent the drop down in class the divisions suggest and Mansfield look good value to win this EFL Cup contest without conceding.
