Manchester United managed to somewhat salvage their worst-ever Premier League season by stunning Manchester City in the FA Cup final. As a result, Erik ten Hag has been given the chance to show he is the right man to lead the Red Devils back to the top of English football.

Ahead of the new season, I have taken a look at the Man Utd Premier League odds and given my prediction on how Ten Hag's side will fare this season, which you can check out below.

Erik ten Hag failed to build upon his promising first season in charge of Manchester United, which saw a third-place finish in the Premier League and lifting the Carabao Cup, and it seemed inevitable that the Dutchman was going to leave his post come the end of the 2023/34 campaign.

However, after a commendable 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester City, the former Ajax boss was awarded a one-year contract extension that – crucially – saw United publicly back the man at the helm. Even if the sceptics thought it was a transparent gesture from new minority owners INEOS, after reportedly failing to convince other targets to take over, it has given Ten Hag the chance to make amends for United's worst-ever Premier League finish.

United no top four at 4-11

INEOS have ushered in a new era at Old Trafford, particularly off the pitch, with the likes of Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox making up United's new-look sporting operation. The signings of Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee early in the window have given fans optimism that the club is being run properly, and not the "adult version of Disneyland" as former chief executive Ed Woodward famously labelled it.

Football Odds

Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have also arrived through the doors at Old Trafford, but the Red Devils desperately need a midfielder, as teams found United too easy to play through last season. Ten Hag's men faced the second most shots (667) of all top-flight teams in 2023/24, with only rock-bottom Sheffield United (678) conceding more. Worst of all, the injury crisis which engulfed them last term has returned even before the season has begun, with big-money signing Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund set to miss the beginning of the new campaign while Luke Shaw is yet again unavailable.

However, United have plenty of young talent on their books, which offers some optimism. Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo both look primed to build on their impressive feats from last season, while Amad Diallo has been tipped to finally have his breakthrough campaign more than three years after first joining the club. Harry Amass is another name to keep an eye on as the young left-back impressed during pre-season, and if Shaw and Tyrell Malacia can't shake off the injury bug, then that position is up for grabs.

Bruno Fernandes continues to be United's talisman, and fans will hoping for a better return from Marcus Rashford this term, along with the likes of Antony and Jadon Sancho who's performances were massively underwhelming last season.

What would a successful season look like? Given how low down the table United finished last year, a return to the Champions League through a top-four (or potentially top-five) finish would be deemed a success, and securing another trophy for the cabinet would be an added bonus.

A top-four finish should be achievable too, on paper at least, as you'd imagine that Liverpool will be slightly weaker transitioning into life post-Jurgen Klopp and Aston Villa will be grappling with playing in the Champions League, which proved a huge handicap for Newcastle United a couple of seasons ago. I still don't know what to make of Chelsea's approach in the transfer market so they're an unknown quantity at this point, and Spurs threw away their Champions League spot after being in the top four for large parts of last season, so United should be looking to finish above them.

Man utd top four at 7-4
