Team News

Lars Villiger and Max Meyer were joint-top scorers for Luzern in last season's Super League, finding the net six times each, but the latter, formerly of Crystal Palace, has since joined Cypriot giants APOEL.

Luzern will hope that German forward Sinan Karweina can help to fill the goalscoring void left by Meyer after joining as a free agent from Austria Klagenfurt in the summer.

Servette's highest scorer last season, Chris Bedia, swapped Switzerland for Germany in the summer as he moved to Bundesliga side Union Berlin, piling the pressure further on forwards Jeremy Guillemenot and Enzo Crivelli, who struck eight times apiece in the league last term.

Luzern are 2/1 to triumph at home on Sunday, giving them an implied win probability of 33.3%, while Servette are 11/10, or a 47.6% chance, to get off to a victorious start.

The draw is available at 12/5, both teams to score at 8/15, and over 3.5 total goals at 6/4.

Double chance and both teams to score - Draw or Servette & Yes @ 21/20

Servette finished third in last season's Super League, 15 points ahead of Luzern, but there was little to separate them in the three head-to-heads. Luzern won the first contest 2-0 at home last September before Servette wreaked their revenge in Geneva the following month, coming from behind to record a 4-2 victory, while the third and final matchup saw the sides play out a 2-2 draw in Luzern.

After winning the Swiss Cup on penalties in June, Servette should arrive on Sunday with even more swagger, determined to build on last season's league placement and mount a challenge for the league title.

Meyer's departure from Luzern was a significant one as he had spent two successful seasons at the club, scoring 11 league goals in his debut campaign, and Die Leuchten will have to adjust to life after the German.

Servette experienced a painful exit of their own after losing Bedia to Union Berlin, but they should be in a better position to cope with such a player leaving. They were good away from home last season, picking up 27 points on their travels - only Lugano (32) and Young Boys (30) accrued more - and they should be emboldened by their cup success a couple of months ago.

They also took the lead twice on their last visit to Luzern, only to be held to a 2-2 draw, and will believe that they can cause further trouble to their backline on Sunday.

Draw or servette & btts yes vs luzern @ 21-20

Both teams to score in first half - Yes @ 11/4

There were fast starts made in all three meetings between these sides last season, with a goal scored in the first 10 minutes of each; the most recent game, a 2-2 draw on March 17, even saw hosts Luzern and visitors Servette both score inside the first five minutes.

Both teams also scored in the first half of Servette's 4-2 victory over Luzern last October.

I considered the 3/1 on the first goal to be scored inside the first 10 minutes but veered away as it is the opening round of the season, so both sides may need to work themselves into the game.

However, I'm still optimistic we could see a couple of goals in the opening period and even one from either side.
