Stockport vs Stevenage Prediction: Hatters to see the job through on home soil

Stockport County were gifted a goal deep into stoppage at Stevenage on Saturday in the first leg of their League 1 play-off semi-final. The Boro have work to do on Wednesday at Edgeley Park (20:00 BST, Sky Sports+) to overcome the 1-0 scoreline on aggregate.
The Hatters have an impressive home record which gives them another advantage in this tie. Below you will find my Stockport vs Stevenage predictions, complete with team news and the latest match odds from Betfred.

Team News
Stockport boss Dave Challinor may be tempted to stick with the same XI that delivered a professional performance in Stevenage. Defender Brad Hills remains unavailable because of a cruciate ligament injury.
Tanto Olaofe and Malik Mothersille are set to be named on the bench again, with the latter hoping for some minutes on Wednesday after missing out at the weekend.
Alex Revell may consider a new approach for Stevenage after they lost their home leg. Veteran Matt Phillips might drop out of the starting lineup as a result.
Stockport vs Stevenage Predicted Lineups
- Stockport: Addai; Dacres-Cogley, Wootton, Pye, Edun; Norwood, Bailey, Osborn, Stokes; Sidibeh, Barry
- Stevenage: Marschall; Pattenden, Goode, Piergianni, Earley; Kemp, Thompson, White, Roberts; Reid, M. Phillips
With 10 wins from their last 13 home games, Stockport are the 10/11 favourites to win this contest inside 90 minutes.
The draw is available at 13/5 and Stevenage have experienced two stalemates in their five most recent outings.
The visitors are an 11/4 bet to prevail in regulation time, like they did in December's league meeting here.
Stockport striker Kyle Wootton is the 7/4 favourite to score anytime on Wednesday.
Stockport vs Stevenage Stats
- Stockport have won 10 of their last 13 home games
- Under 4.5 goals has landed in each of the Hatters' past six home fixtures in L1
- Stockport have conceded the first goal in each of their previous 3 home matches
Match Result & Total Goals Over/Under 4.5 - Stockport & Under @ 23/20
Stockport have the one-goal advantage heading into the second leg on home soil. Given their impressive home record recently, which has seen them win 10 of the previous 13, I think they should be able to see themselves over the line in regulation time.
Stevenage will have a part to play here. After all, they won 3-1 here in December's league meeting. None of the three meetings this term have gone above four goals and so I think adding Under 4.5 Goals to a Stockport win seems a sensible play on Wednesday.
There have also been fewer than five goals scored in each of the Hatters' six most recent outings at Edgeley Park in League 1.

First Team To Score - Stevenage @ 8/5
I think Stevenage can spark this second leg into life by grabbing the first goal. The Boro have no option but to go for it on Wednesday and I think they may profit early against Stockport.
This is because the Hatters have conceded the opening goal in each of their past three fixtures on home turf, while Stevenage also opened the scoring the last time they visited this stadium. Boro have also netted the first goal in four of their last five games in all competitions.
