Real Betis vs Real Madrid Preview:
Real Madrid have the chance to cut Barcelona's lead at the top of La Liga to six points when they travel to play Real Betis on Friday night. Anything short of a victory for Los Blancos would all but end the title race.
Following late heartbreak in the Champions League against Bayern Munich, Álvaro Arbeloa's side returned to domestic action against Alavés on Tuesday. In keeping with the trend of the past few months, Real Madrid again found it tough going against one of the weaker teams in La Liga.
While they had 24 attempts, Los Blancos failed to create a single big chance, with their goals in a 2-1 victory coming via long-range efforts from Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior. They had to sustain spells of heavy pressure in the second half, with the Basque team having 19 shots and creating more xG than their opponents.
It was hardly the sort of performance that might have convinced the Real Madrid hierarchy that Arbeloa is worthy of continuing in his job beyond the summer. A change is looking increasingly inevitable, but the current boss will want his players to at the very least keep fighting until the title race has been won by Barcelona.
The Catalans responded to Real Madrid's win, with a 1-0 victory of their own on Wednesday, but an injury to Lamine Yamal could leave Barça more vulnerable in their upcoming games. That's about the only positive for Madrileños right now, but they've got two potentially tricky road fixtures of their own to negotiate before the clubs meet in El Clásico next month.
Real Betis were also knocked out of a European competition last week. They were 2-0 up on the night in their home second leg, and 3-1 ahead on aggregate, against Braga in the Europa League quarter-finals. However, an almost inexplicable collapse from Manuel Pellegrini's team saw the Portuguese club advance by a 5-3 margin.
With that went a great opportunity to reach a European final for the second season running, after their long run in the 2024/25 Conference League. Attention will now turn to ensuring there is more continental action at La Cartuja next term.
To their credit, Betis responded to the Braga defeat with an impressive 3-2 victory at Girona on Tuesday. They were missing Antony due to suspension, but Ez Abde continued his fine form with a goal and two assists for the Moroccan winger in a brilliant individual display.
The Andalusian club's overall season is difficult to assess. On one hand, they've coped well without their playmaker Isco, who has missed virtually the entire campaign due to injury. Betis can take control of the race for fifth place, which may yet offer Champions League football, by winning this match.
However, many supporters have been disappointed by what they've seen from their team. They failed to make the most of a favourable Europa League path, while it's just two victories in 12 matches across all competitions for Los Verdiblancos heading into this.

Team News:
Both sides have needed to contend with quick turnarounds following action on Tuesday night. That should lead to some rotation, with Betis likely to recall Antony following the conclusion of his ban.
Isco did feature off the bench in Girona, and could get more minutes in this game as he continues to build up his fitness. Full-backs Junior Firpo and Ángel Ortiz are the only expected injury absentees for Pellegrini.
A fresh injury setback for Éder Militão took what little shine there was off Real Madrid's midweek win. The Brazilian is likely to miss several games, and he joins Thibaut Courtois and Rodrygo on the sidelines. Arda Güler has also picked up an injury which will rule him out in Seville.
Antonio Rüdiger should replace Militão in central defence, while Arbeloa may consider changes at full-back. Eduardo Camavinga and Thiago Pitarch are among the options to take Güler's place in midfield.

Match Odds:
Real Madrid are the 5/6 favourites to leave La Cartuja with maximum points. You can back the Draw at 3/1, while Real Betis are priced at 11/4 to win the game.
If you like the look of the hosts, Betis are given a 23/20 chance of winning either half. They're priced at 6/4 to score over 1.5 goals. You can also back Pellegrini's team to net in each half at 13/5.
Real Madrid are on offer at 18/5 to win both halves, while you can back the visitors with a -1.00 Handicap at 21/10. They are priced at 4/6 to score over 1.5 goals.
Mbappé is the 5/2 favourite to score first. The Frenchman is also available at 4/6 to score anytime, with Vinícius on offer at 7/5 in the same market,
From a home perspective, Abde is given a 13/5 chance of extending his current scoring streak with another goal. Meanwhile, striker Cucho Hernández is on offer at 7/4 to get on the scoresheet.

Real Betis vs Real Madrid Stats
- Kylian Mbappe in the La Liga top scorer with 24, which is 16 more than Betis' top marksman Cucho, with eight.
- Real Betis have drawn the most games in Spain's top-flight this term with 13.
- Real Madrid have been awarded 14 penalties, 12 more than Real Betis.
- The home side are efficient in front of goal, scoring from 30% of their Shots on Target.
Bet 1 - Both teams to score & Over 2.5 goals @ 8/11
Real Madrid are in must-win territory in all of their remaining league games, and this is not a Real Betis side that tends to play for a draw. Unlike many of the visiting team's recent league opponents, Betis do like to have the ball and push forwards, which should be the recipe for an open contest.
Mbappé and Vinícius will enjoy having a bit more space to operate in, but the home team have quality in wide areas and Andriy Lunin may be in for another busy night in goal for Los Blancos.
All of the last eight games involving Real Madrid have produced goals at each end, and I'm expecting that trend to continue. I'm backing Both teams to score and Over 2.5 goals at 8/11.
Bet 2 - Real Betis to have over 11.5 shots & Abde Ezzalzouli 1+ shots on target @ 6/5
Abde was one of the most frustrating players in La Liga last season. He had the ability to beat defenders with a piece of skill or turn of pace, but the end product was badly missing. The 24-year-old has rectified that this term, and having scored in three straight matches, he'll be full of confidence heading into this clash.
The hosts could be really vulnerable to Real Madrid's pace on the break, but they should have spells when they're in control and are able to fire in many attempts. Los Blancos have faced 40 shots across their last two matches alone.
Given that, I'm using the Bet Builder to back Real Betis to have over 11.5 shots and Abde to have 1+ shots on target at 6/5.
