Real Sociedad play their second match under the guidance of their new American coach Pellegrino Matarazzo on Friday night. Getafe provide the opposition at the Coliseum.

The hosts were also in action last Friday in La Liga. A 1-1 draw away to local rivals Rayo Vallecano represented a solid start to the new year for Pepe Bordalás' side, who could climb to eighth with three points in this one. That's despite a dip in form that has seen them lose five of their last seven in the Spanish top flight.

Their much-needed equaliser in Vallecas came in the 91st minute, and it was a typical Getafe goal in every sense. A set-piece delivery from Luis Milla, who has assisted 50% of his team's goals in the league this term, was headed in by midfielder Mauro Arambarri. The Uruguayan has scored more times than any other player for Los Azulones since the start of last season.

The fact that a holding midfielder has been their main attacking threat says plenty about their issues up top. Getafe are hoping to complete deals for Betis forward Chimy Ávila, and Mallorca's out-of-favour former captain Dani Rodríguez in the coming days, but neither are likely to be on board in time for this match.

Defensively, the South Madrid outfit do remain a tough nut to crack. They've only conceded six goals in eight home outings so far this season. No visiting team has scored more than once on this ground.

That's a measure of the task facing Real Sociedad on Friday night, but supporters of the Basque club would have been really encouraged by what they saw in Matarazzo's first game in charge.

La Real dominated the first half at home against Atlético Madrid, and while Diego Simeone's side came back into it after the interval, Take Kubo's goal secured a respectable 1-1 draw. With 18 attempts across the 90 minutes, there was plenty of attacking intent, and something for the new boss to build from.

While Real Sociedad no longer have a squad as strong as the one that reached the round of 16 in the Champions League as recently as 2023/24, they should be doing better than their current 15th place.

Under Matarazzo's predecessor Sergio Francisco, they looked too vulnerable defensively, and that's highlighted by a tally of just one clean sheet from 18 league fixtures so far this term. La Liga's first-ever American coach will also be eager to get more out of attacking talents such as Kubo and Gonçalo Guedes.

The immediate priority for the visitors will be to start moving clear of danger. They are only two points above the relegation zone as we reach the midway point. However, they'd be just three points off eighth with a victory at the Coliseum, and that position was good enough for European qualification last season.

Team News:

Getafe are notorious for having one of the worst disciplinary records in the Spanish top flight, and they are missing defensive regulars Domingos Duarte and Dakonam Djené to suspension here.

Top scorer Borja Mayoral is also a significant injury absentee at the other end of the pitch. In addition, the hosts will be without youngster Davinchi again, while they have doubts over Abdel Abqar, Mario Martín and Abu Kamara.

The visitors are not likely to change much structurally following a solid display last time out. However, regulars Igor Zubeldia and Jon Gorrotxategi are available again and could force their way into the starting lineup.

Midfielder Yangel Herrera is their sole notable injury concern. The Venezuelan is only likely to make the bench even if he's passed fit after more than two months out.

Getafe vs Real Sociedad Predicted Lineups

  • Getafe: Soria, Iglesias, Nyom, Ismael, Rico, Femenia, Munoz, Milla, Arambarri, Liso, Juanmi
  • Real Sociedad: Remiro, Aramburu, Martin, Zubeldia, Gomez, Kubo, Turrientes, Gorrotxategi, Guedes, Oskarsson, Oyarzabal

Match Odds:

Real Sociedad are priced at 6/4 to record their first victory under Matarazzo. You can back Getafe to win the game at 12/5, while the Draw is priced at 7/4.

If you like the look of the visitors, you can get odds of 21/10 for La Real to win to nil. They are also priced at 9/4 to score over 1.5 goals.

The expectation is that it'll be a low-scoring affair, though. Both teams to score is long at 11/8, while you can back Under 1.5 goals at 11/10. Getafe are priced at 8/5 to keep a clean sheet.

Backing Milla to assist stands out at 5/1, with the Getafe man creating the joint-most goals in La Liga this season, along with Lamine Yamal. You can back Arambarri to score for the second Friday running at odds of 4/1.

There are more obvious goal threats in the Real Sociedad side. Mikel Oyarzabal is the 9/2 favourite to score first. The Spain international is also on offer at 21/10 to score anytime, while you can back Guedes in the same market at 10/3.

Getafe vs Real Sociedad Stats

  • Only Oviedo (8) have scored fewer La Liga goals this season than Getafe (14).
  • Getafe have the lowest xGA in La Liga at just 18.6. They have conceded 23 goals.
  • The lowest average home attendance this season is at the Coliseum at 8,331.
  • Only Getafe & Valencia have not been awarded a penalty in Spain's top-flight so far this season.
  • Real Sociedad (61.7) have the lowest save % for their goalkeeper so far this season.

Bet 1 - Take Kubo to have 1+ shots on target @ 8/11

At his best, Kubo is one of the most exciting players in La Liga. The Japanese winger hasn't been anywhere near that level for much of the past two years, but he has looked hungry and really threatening in the two matches since Francisco was dismissed.

The 24-year-old scored and had two shots on target against Levante, before assisting and forcing Jan Oblak into three saves during the Atleti match. He should be full of confidence heading into this one, and I'm backing Kubo to have 1+ shots on target at 8/11.

Bet 2 - Draw or Real Sociedad & Over 3.5 Real Sociedad corners @ 20/21 via Bet Builder

With the very early signs suggesting Real Sociedad may be set for a new-manager bounce, the value does look to lie with the visitors here. They are capable of shading this match, and their average of 6.33 corners per away game is surprisingly high given their poor league position.

Getafe just don't seem capable of scoring goals from open play. Mayoral is a major injury absentee, while fellow forward Adrián Liso hasn't found the back of the net in the league since August. Two key defensive suspensions for the home team also suggests they'll do very well to get more than a point from this game.

Given that, I'm using the Bet Builder to back Draw or Real Sociedad and Over 3.5 Real Sociedad corners at 20/21.
