This is already Barca’s 19th match of 2026, and there have been signs of fatigue in their last two performances. After a monumental effort that nearly produced a stunning Copa del Rey comeback from four goals down against Atlético Madrid, they were not at their best in Bilbao last weekend. A goal from Lamine Yamal, who had an otherwise quiet game, sealed an important 1-0 win.
They didn’t look any fresher on Tyneside on Tuesday, with Newcastle’s physicality causing regular problems for the reigning Spanish champions. Barça would ultimately have been happy to leave England with a 1-1 draw, after Dani Olmo won a late penalty, which Yamal converted.
With two tough road trips out of the way, the Catalans will be happy to return home for their final three matches before the international break. The mission will be to secure maximum points against Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano, while ensuring European progress.
It’s 19 wins from 20 home matches this season for Barcelona. They’ve a 100% record in front of their own fans since returning to Camp Nou in November, and few sides have even run them close in that period. Eintracht Frankfurt are the only visiting team to have restricted Flick’s men to a one-goal victory since Girona’s trip to the Estadi Olímpic way back in October.
That’s a measure of the task facing Sevilla, but the Andalusians have to take confidence from what happened in the reverse fixture. Barça were also dealing with the effects of a busy schedule at that point, and Matías Almeyda’s side ran riot with a 4-1 win, one of the shock results of the season in Spain.
Sadly from a Sevilla perspective, it was not a sign of better things to come. Since that victory, they’ve won just four times in 19 league outings, picking up only 18 points. That equates to relegation form over a long period of time, but Los Nervionenses are on a five-game unbeaten run heading into this match.
They came from two goals down to draw the derby away to Real Betis a fortnight ago. A brilliant late strike from Isaac Romero secured a point at La Cartuja.
A goal from Akor Adams set up a 1-1 draw at home to Rayo Vallecano last time out. The Nigerian has played an important role over the past few months, and they carry an increased threat up front with him in the side. Adams has netted in four of his eight league appearances since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, while he also set up the winner as Sevilla claimed a 1-0 victory at Getafe last month.
With 11 games to play, the visitors still have work to do to ensure safety. They have 31 points on the board, so a couple of victories and a few draws will likely see them over the line, although it’s worth noting that 40 points was not enough to save Leganés last season.
Team News:
Some significant rotation is expected from Barcelona, who will want to keep as many players fresh as possible for the second leg against Newcastle. Flick will consider resting the likes of Pedri and Raphinha again, while even Yamal is surely due a breather.
Olmo, Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres could rotate into the forward line, while 18-year-old Xavi Espart could be in line for his La Liga debut at right back. Jules Koundé, Alejandro Balde, Frenkie de Jong and Andreas Christensen are still sidelined due to injuries.
Sevilla suffered a fresh setback last weekend with regular centre-back Kike Salas picking up an injury that will keep him out until after the international break. Marcão and Peque are alsosidelined.
Almeyda, who is currently serving a seven-game touchline ban, will likely continue with his 3-5-2 system. Adams is expected to lead the line, alongside either Romero or veteran Alexis Sánchez.
Barcelona vs Sevilla Lineups (Predicted)
- Barcelona: J Garcia; Araujo, Cubarsi, E Garcia, Martin; Casado, Pedri; Yamal, Fermin, Raphinha; F Torres
- Sevilla: Vlachodimos; Azpilicueta, Nianzou, Gudelj, Salas; Juanlu, Agoume, Sow, Carmona; Adams, Romero
Match Odds:
Barcelona are the clear favourites to win this game at 1/4, while the Draw is priced at 5/1. You can back Sevilla to secure an unlikely double over the defending champions at odds of 8/1.
You can back the visitors to repeat October's 4-1 victory at odds of 125/1. There's little prospect of that, but they'll fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet and the Andalusians are priced at 4/7 to score over 0.5 goals, and 11/4 to net over 1.5 goals.
Barcelona are given an 11/8 chance of winning the match to nil. You can also back the hosts to win both halves at 11/8, while they're priced at 8/11 to score over 2.5 goals.
After Robert Lewandowski started in England, Ferran is likely to come in to lead the line here. He's given a 10/3 chance of scoring first, while the Spain international is on offer at 4/5 to score anytime.
Other options in the Anytime Goalscorer market include Rashford at 21/20 and Olmo at 7/5. From a Sevilla perspective, Adams should be the dangerman, with the 26-year-old given a 15/2 chance of scoring the game's first goal.

First-half double chance - Draw or Sevilla @ 23/20
While Barcelona still have plenty of work to do to win La Liga, they’re now at the stage in the season where the Champions League may take priority over some league fixtures. That’s certainly the case here, and as a result of injuries and rotation, there may only be three or four regulars who start this match.
That gives Sevilla every chance of competing until the break. They are one of the more physical sides in the division and that gave Barcelona real problems in the first half of the reverse fixture. Almeyda’s team created four big chances and scored twice before the interval on that occasion.
Whether they can sustain that intensity for 90 minutes is more doubtful, with a strong home bench likely to do the damage in the second half. However, I can see value in backing Draw or Sevilla in the First-Half Double Chance market at 23/20.
Akor Adams to score anytime @ 7/4
Barcelona are missing their first-choice full-backs again, which could leave them vulnerable on the flanks as was the case in the Champions League in midweek. There are also weak points in the heart of their defence that the pacy Adams will fancy he can exploit. Those factors point towards Sevilla getting on the scoresheet at some point in this game.
Adams will be hoping to replicate Romero, who got in behind the Catalan team’s high defensive line on many occasions in the reverse fixture. He could easily have had a hat-trick in that match, and the Nigerian is likely to be less wasteful should opportunities come his way.
His tally of seven goals from 15 league starts in a struggling team is certainly respectable, and I’m backing Adams to score anytime at 9/5.
