Barcelona vs Mallorca Preview:
Barcelona are bidding to extend their lead at the top of La Liga on Saturday. They take on a Mallorca side that picked up their most convincing victory of the season earlier this week.
Overall, Hansi Flick will be content with how the campaign is panning out at Camp Nou. His side has already won the Spanish Supercopa, and they're going well in the other three competitions too.
Champions League progress into the round-of-16 was secured thanks to a 4-1 win over FC Copenhagen last week, while a 2-1 victory at Albacete booked their Copa del Rey semi-final slot on Tuesday night.
Purely in terms of performance levels, Barcelona are a level or two above Real Madrid. They continue to create plenty of chances in virtually every match, and the impression is of a considerably more harmonious dressing room than is the case at the Santiago Bernabéu.
On paper, just about everything points to Barça successfully defending their league title. However, despite all the drama and discontent in the Spanish capital, the two teams are separated by only one point after 22 matches.
The Catalan giants can therefore ill afford many more slip-ups like the 2-1 defeat they suffered against Real Sociedad last month. Flick's side were not clinical enough on that occasion, but it's now 16 wins from 17 matches in all competitions since a 3-0 defeat at Chelsea in November.
There is little about Mallorca that should strike fear into the home team. The Balearic Islanders are having a disappointing season, and were languishing in the relegation zone until a 4-1 win over Sevilla on Monday night.
Goals from top scorer Vedat Muriqi, as well as Samú Costa, Sergi Darder and Pablo Torre secured an important three points against a direct relegation rival. The result helped to ease some of the pressure that had been building on Jagoba Arrasate, whose reign has divided opinion in Palma.
There will be plenty of scepticism about whether that result will act as a turning point in Mallorca's season. It was their eighth victory in all competitions, but none of the previous seven have been immediately backed up with another win. Given the calibre of the opposition, it seems safe to assume that trend won't change on Saturday.
While not really expected to be operating anywhere above mid-table, Mallorca's relative struggles are all the more puzzling given they have a striker who is outscoring everyone in La Liga besides Kylian Mbappé.
With 15 goals, Muriqi is three clear of third-placed Ferran Torres in the Pichichi race. The Kosovo international is also averaging a league-high 4.5 aerial challenges won per game, with his heading ability among the best of any striker in Europe.
Team News:
Pedri remains a significant injury absentee for Barcelona. Flick has responded to that by tweaking his system slightly. He went with a 4-3-3 formation, as opposed to a 4-2-3-1, in the 3-1 win at Elche last weekend, with Dani Olmo and Fermín López taking up deeper roles alongside Frenkie de Jong.
Gavi and Andreas Christensen are also definitely missing again for the hosts. Raphinha is out injured too, which could present another opportunity for Marcus Rashford on the left flank. The Englishman has scored or assisted in each of his last five appearances.
The visitors will be missing back-up striker Abdon Prats and winger Takuma Asano, but otherwise should be at full strength at Camp Nou.
Arrasate frequently switches to playing with three centre-backs when his teams come up against Real Madrid or Barcelona, and a repeat is likely here. That may see promising young winger Jan Virgili used alongside Muriqi at the top of a 5-3-2 system.
FC Barcelona vs RCD Mallorca Lineups (Predicted)
- FC Barcelona: J. Garcia, Kounde, Cubarsi, E. Garcia, Balde, Olmo, De Jong, Fermin, Yamal, Torres, Rashford
- RCD Mallorca: Roman, Maffeo, Lopez, Valjent, Mojica, Mascarell, Costa, A. Sanchez, Darder, Virgili, Muriqi
Match Odds:
Barcelona are the 1/6 favourites to record another victory here. You can back the Draw at 13/2, while Mallorca are priced at 14/1 to cause a huge upset.
You can back the home team to score over 3.5 goals at 5/4. Barça are also priced at 21/20 to win the game to nil, while they're on offer at 19/20 to win both halves.
Both teams to score is priced at 4/5. If you're expecting a competitive showing from the visitors, you can also back Mallorca with a +2.00 Handicap at odds of 8/5.
Robert Lewandowski started in the Copa del Rey in midweek, which suggests Ferran will rotate in to lead the line on Saturday. The Spain international is available at 3/1 to score first and 4/6 to score anytime.
Rashford is priced at 9/10 to get on the scoresheet, while Lamine Yamal is on offer at 4/5 to score anytime. In the same market, you can back free-scoring Muriqi to strike for the visitors at 2/1.

FC Barcelona vs RCD Mallorca Stats
- Barcelona have had 443 shots this season, which is nearly double that of Mallorca's 229.
- Yet, Mallorca have the second-best Shot on Target percentage at 39.3%. Barcelona are also good at 37.5%.
- Both sides are in the top five in La Liga for Goals per Shot on Target at 0.12 and 0.10 respectively.
Bet 1 - Barcelona to win & Under 3.5 goals @ 7/4
Punters probably shouldn't read too much into Mallorca's four-goal showing on Monday. They will approach this game with a very different mentality, and look sure to park the bus at Camp Nou.
As prolific as Muriqi has been, the powerful target man is not really the kind of striker who has been causing problems for Barcelona this term. They've found it much tougher when up against pacy forwards who are capable of exploiting the space in behind their high defensive line.
The chances of a high-scoring game are also reduced by the absence of Raphinha and Pedri, as well as Flick needing to think about how to keep players fresh ahead of next week's Copa del Rey semi-final first legs. I'm expecting a solid home victory, but not a huge scoreline, and I'm backing Barcelona to win and Under 3.5 goals at 7/4.
Bet 2 - Barcelona over 20.5 shots & Lamine Yamal 2+ shots on target @ 7/5 via Bet Builder
Jagoba Arrasate has lost all three matches against Barcelona since becoming Mallorca boss by an aggregate score of 9-1.
His team dropped deep and invited their opponents to take shots from range in this fixture last season. That resulted in a game that saw the Catalans have a remarkable 40 attempts, with Yamal alone having 10. However, the hosts only scored once in a narrow victory, as Leo Román produced an inspired performance in goal for the away team.
I can see a similar kind of game developing here, and Yamal is currently in great form. The teenager has scored in four successive appearances to highlight his increased goal threat this term. Given that, I'm using the Bet Builder to back Barcelona to have over 20.5 shots and Lamine Yamal to have 2+ shots on target at 7/5.
