Hull City vs Sheffield Wednesday Prediction: 10/1 shot for away success

Hull City boss Tim Walter is struggling to get his team going right now. They lost 1-0 to lowly Luton Town at the weekend, a result that saw them drop into the bottom three for the first time this season. Next up, they host Sheffield Wednesday at the MKM Stadium (19:45, Sky Sports+), knowing that a fourth defeat in a row will plunge them further into danger.
Below you will find my Hull City vs Sheffield Wednesday prediction featuring team news and betting tips.
Hull City vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting Tips
Team News
Joao Pedro got the nod over Chris Bedia up front for the Tigers at the weekend, but we could see the Ivorian return to the team after Hull failed to find the net. Pedro has scored two in eight appearances this season, and there’s a real lack of cutting edge to this squad right now - with no other player in the squad having scored more than he has this term.
Ryan Giles is still struggling to get on the pitch as Walter continues to pick Cody Drameh ahead of him, but Xavier Simons is a certainty to start in midfield. The injury issues are certainly hampering the manager at this moment in time with Mohamed Belloumi and Liam Millar out with ACL injuries, and Steven Alzate, Andy Smith, Carl Rushworth and Thimothee Lo-Tutala all still sidelined.
Sheffield Wednesday are only without Akin Famewo and Olaf Kobacki at the moment, as Danny Rohl has a pretty stacked deck of cards to play with right now. Josh Windass, Ike Ugbo and Michael Smith all started at home to Cardiff as the manager switched to three at the back, with Dominic Iorfa left on the bench.
I’d expect the centre-back to return here as the Owls could revert to a more traditional back four on the road, just as they did at Bramall Lane before the international break. Smith should continue up top, with Svante Ingelsson also an option to come back into the midfield after not getting onto the pitch against Cardiff.
Hull City vs Sheffield Wednesday Odds
Hull are priced at 7/5 to win this game, with Sheffield Wednesday available at 2/1. That gives the home side an implied win probability of 41%, while a draw is 9/4. Over 2.5 goals is 10/11, BTTS is 8/11 and Bedia is the favourite to score first at 13/2.
Sheffield Wednesday to win @ 2/1
There’s just no way I am backing Hull to win a game of football right now. They did alright against Luton but failed to take their chances, and things soured somewhat as Walter disappeared straight down the tunnel rather than applauding the away fans in the rain. I think the relationship between the fans and the boss who only joined in the summer is at breaking point and another defeat could tip them over the edge.
The injuries are clearly a big factor here, but he needs to find the solution. The Tigers now haven’t won in their last eight games, and while Wednesday haven’t kicked on as expected, they have enough to come away with three points here. Rohl is an astute tactician, while I don’t think the same can be said for the man in the opposition dugout at this moment in time.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Sheffield Wednesday to win both halves @ 10/1
This is unbelievable value in my eyes. If Hull concede early on, I think the crowd will make it difficult for them to get back into the game, and chants against the manager may begin. I think Wednesday should be favourites to win this away game, and I can easily see Barry Bannan pulling the strings in midfield.
Smith and Windass should cause problems, while Hull may get caught out in the second half if they chase an equaliser. I’m all in on Wednesday on Tuesday night - and think we could be onto a big winner if this game pans out in the way I expect.
