Reading manager Ruben Selles is set to take the vacant Hull City job, with the highly-rated manager reportedly having said his goodbyes to the Reading players. The move is an exciting one for Hull fans, but it may come too late for him to take charge of this weekend’s game as they host a Blackburn Rovers side that have won their last three games on the bounce.

This fixture kicks off at 15:00 on Saturday afternoon at the MKM Stadium, and below you can find my Hull City vs Blackburn Rovers predictions featuring team news and betting tips.

Hull City vs Blackburn Rovers Betting Tips

  • Under 2.5 goals @ 4/5
  • Blackburn to win @ 13/8

Team News

Cody Drameh is a concern having been taken off during the second half of the Middlesbrough match, but he could be fit enough to start this one. If he isn’t, then Ryan Giles will be handed some long-awaited game time at left-back having not been given too much of an opportunity to prove his worth under former boss Tim Walter.

Meanwhile, star winger Mohamed Belloumi has taken a huge step towards getting his rehabilitation underway after undergoing surgery on his ACL injury. He will be out for the rest of the campaign but his recovery is now underway. Liam Millar has the same issue while Steven Alzate and Dogukan Sinik are also sidelined.

Alfie Jones and Sean McLoughlin could continue at the back as Charlie Hughes remains a doubt having missed the trip to Boro, while Chris Bedia and Joao Pedro will once again battle it out for the number nine spot. Kasey Palmer looks to have secured the position behind the striker, while Mason Burstow scored his first goal for the club off the bench at the Riverside. He could start this one with Abu Kamara on the opposite wing.

For Blackburn, they will have to cope without influential midfielder and captain Lewis Travis, as he is suspended having picked up five yellow cards this season. Lewis Buckley, Joe Rankin-Costello or Lewis Baker could be chosen to fill that gap and partner the impressive Sondre Tronstad in the heart of midfield.

“I think you can see how effective Sonny and Trav have been as a pair in midfield, but if one of them is missing it gives somebody else an opportunity to step up,” John Eustace said ahead of the game.

“We’ve got really good competition for places in there, with Bucko, Bakes, Joey, so we’ve got players who will come in and do a very good job for us I’m sure.

“It’s frustrating obviously not to have the captain of the team available, but it gives somebody the opportunity to step up and I know they will.”

Todd Cantwell scored the winning penalty, but also picked up a knock against Leeds and will have to be monitored ahead of this one, while Scott Wharton, Hayden Carter and Andreas Weimann remain in the treatment room. Yuki Ohashi is likely to lead the line again ahead of Makhtar Gueye, with Ryan Hedges the replacement for Cantwell if the former Norwich man misses out.

Hull City vs Blackburn Rovers Odds

Hull are priced at 7/5 to win this game, which feels a little short given they have only won one home game so far this season. Blackburn are available at 13/8 giving them an implied win probability of 38%, while a draw is 11/5, which could be a smart pick given Rovers have drawn three away games out of eight.

Over 2.5 goals has only come in during 33% of Hull’s games, and that is priced at 10/11 while BTTS is 8/11. Ohashi is 6/1 to open the scoring having scored four goals in 17 matches so far in 2024/25.

Under 2.5 goals @ 4/5

These two both rank in the bottom half for under 2.5 goals and I can’t see that changing here as they take each other on. Hull have only seen over 2.5 goals in six of their 18 league matches so far this season which ranks them fifth from bottom in the Championship, with 66 per cent of their matches having two goals or fewer.

Meanwhile Blackburn, who have been in good form across the season are only slightly more entertaining, as 59 per cent of their matches have ended with two goals or fewer. They are both below the average and if Cantwell may miss out, I can see this being a pretty poor affair in terms of quality. We’re set for a low-scoring 90 minutes at the MKM Stadium.

Blackburn to win @ 13/8

Now I’m a massive fan of Selles, but Andy Dawson looks as though he will be taking charge of his final game this weekend. Although the players will want to impress their incoming boss, they were second-best against Middlesbrough last time out when again we may have expected a positive result after Walter’s exit.

Meanwhile, I think it is time to stop doubting Blackburn. Eustace is a superb manager at this level and their 1-0 win over Leeds was their best result of the campaign. Cantwell has been a wonderful addition, and I think Rovers can make it four wins in a row on Humberside.
